I'm from S.I.N.Y., and new to chicken keeping. My wife has some experience, as her father had them her whole life growing up, and she wanted to raise some of our own for the eggs. We have 2 White Leghorns and 3 Rhode Island Reds, that we raised from chicks and they are now only a few weeks...
I have White Leghorns and Rhode Island Reds, and twice I've caught them killing and eating sparrows that get caught in their coop/run. I'm guessing it's a territorial thing. Don't really know why else they would, but I'm relatively new to chicken keeping, so I'm still learning.
