Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Unfortunately a hungry bear decided raided our coop last fall, and basically destroyed it. I don't have the heart to rebuild, fearing a repeat. I am buying eggs from someone a few miles away though - the taste and quality of fresh eggs just cannot be beaten.

Pullets or cockerels? About 12 weeks old

Thanks!!!! in advance for helping me figure out if these are pullets or cockerels. I've only had 2 chickens previously. I'm up in northern Canada so I have to take what I can get from others who keep chickens. I've had these two for six weeks and they are about 12 weeks old.

    Too early to tell?

Thanks! I thought it might be a rooster because of the tail feathers and the large comb and wattle. Is there anything else that you based your opinion on? I'd like to learn, as now I have to rehome this guy and I'd like to avoid that in the future.

    Too early to tell?

Hi nice chicken folks, This pretty chicken I was given is about 10 weeks old and is starting to look like it might be a rooster. I'm too inexperienced to tell at this age but I wonder if anyone else who is more experienced can tell? Thanks! Dave

Official BYC Poll: Is chicken keeping legal in your town?

Our town allows keeping chickens on properties of 1 or more hectares. Ours is only about 1/2 hectare so technically our girls aren't allowed, but none of our neighbours care and are glad of the occasional gift of fresh eggs.

    Pullets or cockerels?

They are sure nice birds. So gentle and curious. I love how they come running when I go out to open their door in the mornings, and the quiet little sleepy noises they make when I tuck them in at night.

    Pullets or cockerels?

Hi all, I've just started keeping chickens and have recently acquired 3 from a back yard breeder who says they are 4 to 5 month old Buff Orpington pullets. I'm looking for confirmation as I don't want a rooster to annoy the neighbors. Are these photos clear enough? I can take more. Two...
