I just had to share -
I was sitting down at the creek enjoying the afternoon sunshine. The girls like to scratch around along the mud and get drinks from the water. Suddenly- one of our white Leghorns ran up from the creek with a little tiny 3" fish in her mouth...it was still wiggling. She...
None of my poults were shipped. I received 1/2 from a local breeder and the other 1/2 from the feedstore here in town.
I suppose it is possible they could be damp - but I have them on sand, and with the heat lamps it dries very quickly.
I'm feeding them Game-bird starter - I have a dish of...
I am having trouble keeping my turkey poults alive.....
I have all the heating and food requirements correct.
I have a chick in with them to help them learn to eat and drink
I've changed the bedding type from pine shavings to sand so they wouldn't eat the bedding.
Why do they keep dying...
I just spoke to the State Vet and he recommended an autopsy. If they have something infectious then it needs to be identified - otherwise, maybe they are stressed. I just have trouble believing stress is killing them. So - my local vet will be doing an autopsy this afternoon.
I have 25 hens and ONE rooster - and two of my girls have naked shoulders. They are his favorites - so I know that keeping more hens per rooster doesn't always solve this problem.
Good luck -
I think I purchased some turkey poults with Pollorum - after I lost 80% of the poults, I thought it was something I had done wrong and purchased more turkey poults from a different source.
Within 48 hours my new turkey poults started coming down with the same symptoms....
What can I do to...
The temp is fine - and the older poult was in there - I watched and saw they were all eating and drinking.
The poults are fine - and then they start chirping and then get lethargic, but keep chirping. I'm wondering if it is Pollorum considering how quickly they seem to contract it and die.
My famous last words: We raise chickens, how hard can turkeys be?
We received our very first batch of turkey poults from a local breeder - and within 48 hours we had ONE survivor.
We thought we did something wrong (i.e. - didn't dip their beaks and didn't put marbles in the water or...
Hi - I just wanted to say that I have had the same problem with my turkey poults. I had 13 and only 1 survived. I've raised tons of chickens so know that the light, food, and water source were all okay. I had completely bleached and rinsed all items before putting my turkeys into their spot...
Of course I would consider other variables - but for a 6th grade science experiment it worked well. Humidity, temperature, and auto-matic egg turner were consistent for all the eggs.
These are my 12 year old son's results for his 6th grade Science Project.
We took 36 eggs and cleaned them with different substances to determine how to treat the eggs before incubation:
Washing the eggs with hydrogen peroxide or boiling water resulted in more hatched chicks than any other...
We had this EXACT same problem as you - we just moved into a home (with acreage) that had been left to sit empty for a few years. All the neighbors allowed their dogs to come over and run the property.
Well - after having a few chickens killed by the dogs I finally had to just get in the...
