We allow our 8 girls to free range.
Last year in the fall we did lose 2 of our RIR's, (Henny & Penny) to a fox or foxes on the same day, and I was home (with 4 dogs who never alerted me to the "ruckus" outside).
Broke my heart, they were so sweet.
Once that happened, I "banished" the girls...
We have 8 girls, no Roo's.
We get so many eggs with the girls we have, we give them away to family & neighbors.
We have a 3 Easter Eggers, 2 Plymouth Rocks, a Speckled Sussex, a Barnevelder, and a gray "hybrid" Olive Egger (Cross between a Cuckoo Maran & Americauna). She is beautiful !
Too funny !!! My girls do the same, just never got a picture of them! I have 8 hens, and my hubby built an awesome coop with 8 nest boxes, & run for them.My Speckled Sussex,(Speck) has become broody lately, (no Roo's), but the other girls insist on laying in the one box with Speck. Guess they...
My girls LOVE these treats!
I let them free range during the day, and all I have to say is "Come on girls" and shake the container and they come running into the coop !!!
