Mine lay at any time. I'm more likely to have an egg or two in the late morning or afternoon than in the early morning or evening. I have two Easter Eggers and each one lays on her own schedule I might have one in the morning and one in the afternoon, or two at the same time, or none at all. I...
Mine are made of aspen fibers and have a brown paper back. I got them on Amazon. I don't like to use plastic. They are flat, but the chickens get into the nest box and dig at it until they have a nice bowl shaped depression.
I have tried hay, but I found that nesting pads work the best with my ladies. I have two, and they use the same nest box. They can still make their own nest with it. They kick the hay out of the nest box.
I have two 8-month-old Easter Eggers and they average two eggs a day. One started laying last November and the other one in December. I live in Southeast Arizona. I noticed that when the temps dropped to the 20s at night they didn't lay, but they did during the warmer temps in the daytime...
I'm so sorry for your loss. I think you're doing all the right things in this matter. I also think that you will heal, and you will consider getting more chickens. When a coyote got one of my chickens, I thought I would just keep the two I have left. My neighbor brought some left-over fencing...
I use aspen nesting pads with mine, and they can dig and shape the nest as needed. I put fake eggs in my nest boxes and all of the eggs have been laid in the nest boxes. I hope this helps.
My Easter Eggers are about the same age as yours, and one started laying on November 19th, while the other started today. I wonder if the geographic location has any effect on how and when chickens start and continue laying. I live in the desert southwest, where the colder temps don't last as...
This morning when I checked for eggs, I found a very large one. It's even bigger than the large grocery store eggs. My chickens are just coming into their sixth month. The top egg is from today, and the bottom one is one of the first eggs. I'm surprised that a young hen would lay such a big egg!
I think he wasn't aware that they are invasive. He collected seed pods from different trees he found in parking lots around town and planted them in his yard.
Thank you for the roosting advice.
Thank you for answering. We have a lot of tree of heaven branches. My father planted two of them a long time ago, and now they're taking over the yard.
