Thank you for reply, She does seem to favour her Oyster Shell a lot at the moment so wondered if it was calcium/Vitamin related, there seems to be no swelling but she seems to be very wobbly and would rather lie down then stand. I've held her up for a couple of minutes and she seems to have...
Hi guys. I have a young girl she's only 44 weeks old and has gone lame. She is still eating drinking and laying about every 3rd day. Some days she can stand and limp other days she just lies down, she seems to lie on her foot closed up and it seems to be hot to touch but there are no other...
when we are in the chickens get the whole run of the garden which is every night, they have several dust baths in the garden and in their pen which are used by all three girls every day. However I seem to have one kinky chicken who before bed every night has a bath in the washing bowl full of...
It's more that the wood chips,we originally used the stuff that you use to help control weeds in the garden) have created a hard crust therefore the water doesn't drain great which I think has caused the smelly problem. The girls have the run of the garden when we get in from work but I will be...
This is my set up I'm not sure about the depth but the run is 3ft long, I've started to turn over the soil at the front to help they dry do you think I should put dome hay on top to help?
your not wrong about the rain lol, I don't have any bedding down at the moment. the coop is raised up off the ground so all the bedding is stored in there, then there's a separate run attached to it which is currently soil based - it originally had wood chips down but as they have degraded in to...
Hi, I have had my 3 lovely girls for over 2 months now, when we first got them they were in a 3 meter run with the coop attached, As the run was on soil we used some wood bark on top of the soil. - after raking it every day the wood bark has started to degrade in to the soil and hardened with...
Thanks for the advice, I have her in dig cage unfortunately the bottom isn't wired but it is metal, she is in the house at the moment but going to move her to the shed for tonight then I. The coop tomorrow. Did yours sleep in the cage or did you let them roost on the nest?
I have a metal dog cage so I'll get that set up tonight, I would have automatically put hay in so thanks for that tip I'll go and get some towels :). Unfortunately this morning she sounds like she has respiratory problems so she's on her medication for that. Is it easy to reintroduce them back...
Hi all, I am after a bit of help, one of our hens has gone very broody this would be her first week, we aren't in the position to allow her to hatch eggs, and I don't know what to do for her, she is so hot I've tried cooling her in a bucket of water and she has also lost so much weight I keep on...
I'm only new to,this chicken thing myself, but don't you think it's a bit harsh to just let the cats have the chickens?? Surely it's not their fault that you've been screwed over and not researched properly?
Thanks judy, it's just taken us an hour to get all 3 in lol hope tomorrow goes a bit better. and I've removed their food from the run to try and discourage rats and mice. All ready to go in tomorrow morning :)
