I was wondering how you select your chicks when u pick them up from where ever?
I just got 3 rir and 3 silver laced at farm, family and home (tsc competition)
the guy asked which ones, I looked at him and said the bigger, alive looking ones.
idk just thought I would ask for me and others.
im not a pro or a newbee. but I have never ever used a heat lamp in the house, and the 40-50 chicks I raised in the last 4 years have all done well with the 71* house temp.
I will put them outside in a couple weeks with a heat lamp due to it is still cold in ohio, just because they get messy...

hello every one.
I would like to get some chicks early this year, but I don't want them in the house again. I have chickens now and would like to add more to the flock.
what are ppl doing early in the year in the snow/colder region to over come this?
I do have electric in the coop, I keep...
dumor layer pellets
I haven't noticed the older ones molting yet.
I would say it has got really cold yet.
im just answering the questions, I have no idea being this is the second winter for me having chickens and the first time adding new to old.
I have 2 roos, 18 hens, mixed flock.
4 bantams, a red and? are just over a year old.
picked up more this spring, 3 white p rocks (1 roo), 3 buff orp (1 roo), 4 dark bramaha, and a couple others.
the older ones layed pretty good, but fell off when the younger ones started, for what I can...
I wish I could put them out, there not feathered completely yet. plus northern ohio is a little colder than you guys. just got back from hocking hills yesterday and there was a 20* difference.
