    Clean Water

This seems to be the way to go. I have a 5 gallon bucket and a 2 gallon bucket of water in the run and even after weeks the water is crystal clear and clean. No slime or funkiness. The PVC elbows for the feeder are also awesome, no more wasted food!

A question on coop space with an enclosed/secure run.

Thanks all! The HW cloth apron is about 8" around all sides, plus the 4x4, so something would have to be really determined to get in over the course of a single night. The coop is in a pretty decent windbreak (house in front, fence in back, sheds/structures on either side), so I'll play it by...

A question on coop space with an enclosed/secure run.

Thank you! I'll keep an eye out for free woodchips. As far as the feeder goes, I made it myself. I can take a pic tomorrow but here is the tutorial I followed: It works great. Cost about 20 bucks total. I put food in the bucket over 2 weeks ago, and the bucket is still darn near full...

Can anything chew through 1/2" hardware cloth? Other than a bear..

A question on coop space with an enclosed/secure run.

Thanks all! I just updated my location info. I'm in Eastern, PA, so we have all 4 seasons. The run is completely enclosed with 1/2" hardware cloth, with 8" flares outward and the base (need a piece in front of the door and I plan on cutting the grass super short and mushing the flared HW...

A question on coop space with an enclosed/secure run.

Thank you! I'll add more roosting since there's only a 42" 2x4 set up for it now. With 24x7 open access to the run, do i still need to keep food and water in the coop?

A question on coop space with an enclosed/secure run.

Hello, We've built a 6x3.5 coop for what was going to be 4 chickens.. well we received 7 in the mail and the kids want to keep all of them.. I know the typical rule of thumb is 4 sq feet of coop per chicken, and 10 feet of run. Well, I just finished the run, which is 112 sq feet (8x14), with...

Finished coop (mostly).. planning a run now

Thanks all! The area designated for the run doesn't get too soggy now, but I'm not sure how that may change once chickens are scratching the grass out of it. I may elect to partially cover the run for now and leave the option open to fully cover it down the road if it becomes a soggy disaster

Finished coop (mostly).. planning a run now

Yeah I have a hatch inside of the coop to let them go down and be completely enclosed, which will be good if we go away for a night or 2 (5 gallon buckets of water and food available), and I built a gate that swings open on the back side of the coop to allow entry from the future run.

Finished coop (mostly).. planning a run now

Hey all, just (finally) finished a 6x3.5 coop for 4 hens (still need to paint & trim). I am trying to plan out a run and am not sure how to proceed.. What do you guys think regarding a covered vs. uncovered run? Not sure if it's worth the time or expensive to put some sort of roof on top...
