I live in a real neighborhood with a lot of neighborhood cats and probably a few strays. I have kept ducks here for four years and like you they are in my side yard which is too large to cover. I have never seen a cat bother my ducks and haven't lost a duck to any predators or cats.

Just some of the information out there.
Hello!
It's been about 4 seasons since I've last had ducklings. I was considering going with the outdoor brooder method this year. Our temps are H of 85-90 and low in mid 50s right now. I am expecting a batch of 6 ducklings next week. I was going to make a MHP type set up with the tunnel etc but...
Here are examples of my Ducks "before and after" - maybe can help with ducking ID?
Anyway, taken at one week and 8 weeks!
Welsh Harlequin
Saxony (This is the one who was sick but she is 100% ok now!)
Pekin
Silver Appleyard
Buff
I finished the pond!!! And no surprise they love it! I am having difficulty with up loading pics at the moment but will try again soon.
They literally spend all day in the pond. Is that ok? I thought they would want to wander around and forage more but they just like to float in the water haha
I'm not an expert but I have one pekin who is 4.5 weeks and she started getting feathers at about 2 weeks. She looked terrible especially when she was wet. 2 weeks later they are filling in better but its still an ugly stage. I noticed that when she was preening she would pull out some of the...
UPDATE:
All five of the duckies are doing well now! 4.5 weeks and they are huge and they are changing color and getting real feathers!
I moved them outside into their run on Sunday but moved them back in the garage today because it is 45degF windy and raining. I wasn't sure if they would be ok...
I appreciate everyone's input on my duckies! I am happy to report she swam underwater (duckies torpedo) for the first time! She is catching up with here sisters and boding any other issues I think she has made a full recovery. I let the girls outside for some sunshine etc yesterday and it was so...
I just got off the phone with Metzer they didn't know anything about them being more heat sensitive. They were very nice but didn't have anything more to add.
I think in general there isn't really a right or wrong way to do things because it depends on so many variables. I agree my daughter...
Oh! you are totally right!! I just looked at my chart and next to her picture I have written Silver Appleyard LOL Thanks!
I ordered a WH, Silver Appleyard, Pekin, Buff and Saxony.
I have used ACV on everything! Don't know why I didn't remember it for the duckies! I will try that- might be a good healthy treat for everyone. She is alert, she will run from my hand when I go to pick her up, she peeps now when I take her away for her bath also.
This was my first thought...
I have been trying to look this up as well. Does any one know if would be ok to leave my peach tree in their run? It provides nice shade (it gets hot here!) But I don't know if it would be bad if a fruit dropped and the duck got ahold of it?
