Thank you for putting some logic in my thoughts, I appreciate it :) No, it's not enjoyable, we're attached to them like pets, but.... not enjoyable. Also like you pointed out, we've been buying eggs since Sept.
We have family a few miles from us that plan on getting chickens (they have our...
I'm in almost the exact situation. Main flock 2.5 years old, a couple other reliable layers ~that age or slightly older. And 4 pullets almost 9 months old, barely an egg a week if that.
An older hen started molting early Sept, everyone followed and fully feathered again, but still not laying...
I've fed Country Companion since June 2022. My hens now stopped laying. Husband picked up a new brand today (I might guess it's AgLand from Colo). Fingers crossed even though it's not much daylight this time of year. I have 4 pullets that should be laying now or any day in addition to 2 year...
No need to call, next door neighbor. A lot of contact, long time great neighbor, but he has a new roommate who owns the dog. She wants us to work with training her dog no to kill chickens. My thoughts are I'll help her with basic obedience so the dog doesnt run while she's trying to take his...
It's a predicament, this happy friendly dog and no rules where we live regarding containing dogs-, -- Just a handful of residents out here and a couple dogs. They all run away at one time or another (no fences here beyond barbed wire survive winters here) but this one kills chickens. And...
Sorry for the confusing drama. He killed our chickens in January. But yesterday last day of May he was running loose again. Twice. It was dumb luck we saw him both times while running towards our coop/run. We are not normally out there. The second time tonight we found at the coop just...
I'm so sorry your lost your babies! I lost 7 of flock of 12 this January, Good neighbor of 10 years took in a roommate with a dog. They've been great about putting him on a chain but he was loose twice today and bee lined towards our coop with our 5 remaining chickens. 2nd time was just after...
What should I do? I need to mention, it's heavy on my mind, we hopefully moving to town in 2 years where we will have a private courtyard. Not very big for a dog and chickens.
Hi, checking in, I ended up with 11 hens and 1 rooster. Our rooster is just the cutest thing ever, total cute ham. BUT, neighbor took in a room mate with a totally untrained dog that killed 7/12 of my chickens. Super bad, I walked out during the middle of it and saw my hens dead and dying...
Thank you :) I know a lot of pellet stove people don't like horse bedding pellets for their stoves, but would be doing the opposite. They are so expensive now and sometimes we get damaged bags (stove does not feed sawdust well lol) so this will be the perfect use for them!
