Our girls are coming on strong. Have 21 layers, had predicted late Dec. Or early Jan. As their 6 month time. Today we got 12 eggs from the 21. We have 4 Buff Orpingtons, 5 White Plymouth Rock, and 12 RIR girls and 2 RIR boys. Or pre-teens. Soon be selling some eggs to help offset feed bill. They...
We had our first 5 egg day, we have 2 older RIR's 10younger RIR's, 4 Buff Orpingtons, and 5 White Plymouth Rocks. It's time for the younger girls to start laying. We had 3 smaller and obviously new laid eggs today. Soon will have more than we can deal with.
Thanks all, that's what I thought, just needed a 2nd,3rd, and 4th opinon. I have a plan for 8 of them. Just been a while. And may give some of them to neighbors.
Here are a few more that are closer. My thoughts are, we have one hen out of nine. only good part is my wife ordered 20 little ones, (supposed to be pullets), they showed up today
Folks
This has probably been asked before. is my flock mainly hens or roosters. They are just over 4 months I believe. only 2 of them have really large combs, most others smaller, and only one with really small comb.
The 2 with the largest combs are getting rather moody, I have bloodshed to...
Fresh cut green alfalfa probably not a good idea I guess. A day or 2 here and it will be dry. I can go get all I want from the side of the hiway. Just need to let it dry first.
jaide, we just started this spring and have 9 12 wk RIR's and 2 8 wk RIR's, still separated. These girls (I hope) are way friendly, we hold and pet them daily and they eat from our hand.
I have 9 in the run now. I give them appx. 2 cups of scratch most mornings, I try to stay below the 10%. Have not noticed and evidence of any parasites. They all have nice feathers and poop looks normal.
And keep out unlimited grower always.
OK, our RIR's are at 12 weeks. They are all cool with being picked up. But when we do, they feel "boney." They have unlimited food (grower), we give them treats, scratch grains and grit. They look and act healthy. Any reason for concern?
Good to be here. I was raised around the "farm" culture. Chickens included. Now married 37years and we decided to get some. Started with 12 RIR's. We lost 3, then a friend gave us 2 younger RIR's. We keep them separate for now. The 2 younger ones are escape artists.
Ours haven't started laying yet. Have 11 R.I. Reds. They are at 10 weeks. Just finished their "big girl" house with roost and nest boxes. Can't wait for those fresh eggs.
