Newbie here. We have 18 chicks about 3 months old. My son bought a hen now about 6 months old. Today I found our first egg from the hen. It was on the ground. I thought they naturally went to nesting box. I put the egg in the nesting box hoping she would find it and go there to lay more...
this is about the best picture I have. I made a mistake on hardware cloth it was 18 gauge. Hopefully you can enlarge pictures as the second one is sideways. But it tore the cloth down and out the full 4" square of cattle fence. We got video work the next day or two and dogs showed up a 1 am...
The one survivor is doing well. I think we have found our predator. A couple nights later a pair of dogs showed up at 1 a.m. One dog was trying to get to the area the hole was at but it had been covered up. Not positive it was them but they looked pretty suspicious. We have one fence that's...
We don't know what it was. We have decided to put another layer of hardware cloth over the one that's there. Then put our repaired tarp over it and add another layer of hardware cloth over the tarp. Three layers of hardware cloth would be pretty hard to chew through. It's amazing how something...
Whatever it was it was determined and successful. We had just had a bad hail storm and our power was out for 24 hours. Unfortunately something happened to our camera system and we were unaware it could not record properly so our cameras were of no use to us.
Our cloth does go all the way down, but what's weird is the hole it made was made 4 or 5 inches above the ground and there was no signs of them trying to dig under anywhere. The ground was not disturbed at all anywhere around. What we have is a chicken tractor. It's made to be able to move...
We live in far south Texas. We built a chicken tractor made of cattle fence and covered in 18 gauge hardware cloth and a tarp. We got up a few days ago to find something had chewed our tarp all around the bottom and finally chewed a 4" hole big enough for the predator to get in through the...
I am not as concerned about the poop but whether they can roost comfortably on the 2". Logically to me, the 4" would be better but the instructions had them mount it upright.
Thank you, we are building a chicken tractor. The directions say to mount the 2x4 with the 2" side up . We have 4 week old Copper Marans and Easter Eggers. Then we have 2 week old Guineas and white leghorn.
I want to know about placement of the roosting bars. Some are round, some are 2x2, 2x4 etc. I felt like the 2x4 placed with the 4" laying flat for them to sit on would be best but......... I have found all kinds of ways. I live in far south Texas and I don't worry about frostbite here (which...
