I selected this rooster because he grew faster than everybody else. 6 lbs at 18 weeks.
My harvest goal would be probably roosters at 16 weeks(3.5 lbs dressed) and hens at 20ish weeks same 3.5 lbs. Harvested in batches of 6-8(freezer space). There are only 2 of us and we eat a lot...
Trying to decide between Buff Orpington And Delaware. I have access to both non-hatchery stock. Leaning towards the Buffs because o slightly large size and likeliness to brood , but I could be swayed. The sire will be a large BCM rooster.(His little brother was meaty and delicious).
Friendliest birds I've had. I kept 5 girls to try to cross with my black copper marans rooster to see what the next gen. will look like. They are about 16 weeks now, hopefully see some eggs in the next month.
I just finished a batch of red broilers. They worked out well for me. 16 birds 12 weeks 320 lbs of feed.yielded about 70 lbs of meat(without necks and giblets). Ranged for 3 lbs 3 oz to 5 lbs 9 oz. I would do again, just not in a house/pen. Tractor is the way to go.
I did the red broilers from purely poultry(because I could get 15 with free [email protected] ea). The males dressed out between 4.4 - 5.7 lbs at 12.5 weeks(without giblets & necks). I meant to do them at 10 weeks but.... I don't know how much they gained after that. This is them at 6.5 weeks
Are giants allowed to visit and see if any princesses would want to move to the notsofar off land of Thonotosassa? To become friends with the Maran Princesses Dahli, Violet and Buttercup.
Mine both had the color on the necks. The boy started to get other colors on his wings at 8 weeks. Then started crowing at 9 weeks, although it was pretty obvious by comb size he was a boy at 5 weeks
