Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Okay, here's my hatch-a-long question... On March 20 one of my EEs decided to start sitting on some eggs. She started out on 4, one of hers and three belonging to my other girls. I figured the other girls would just lay in a different box, but NO, they all went and laid in the box that...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

1/2 layers. My production red hasn't laid since i got rid of the rooster a few weeks ago. I know a rooster's not physically necessary for a hen to lay but what about emotionally? Could she be on strike because I got rid of get boyfriend? Still have about eight weeks before my pullets start...

    Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She came from Murray McMurray. I don't see any saddle feathers. I had ordered three WCBP but two were DOA. ( We had 5 altogether that arrived dead, heartbreaking experience ) Since she's the only surviving Polish I'm glad everyone is leaning towards pullet.

    chicks still not laying!

You might want to check with one of the more experienced folks on BYC, but I've been under the impression that you shouldn't give a pullet laying pellets until they actually begin to lay. I think I read that it can actually damage their system. I think its better, if they eat together, to keep...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Mine are really mottled with black. Only my BO is looking like the picture in the catalog. I guess as long as they lay it's okay.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

@bumpercarr @holm25 @sigmachigirl Thanks y'all for your opinions, I was pretty sure I have another roo on my hands but its nice to have a confirmation on that. I'm also glad to hear their dark feathers may molt out and come in with the truer color pattern of the breed. @Junibutt I think...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

These are my 10 week old light Brahma from Murray McMurray. I'm a little disappointed in their coloring, but I'm just raising them for fresh eggs for my family, so their coloring isn't critical, however I can't get eggs from a rooster and #3 is looking awfully "rooy" to me. What y'all think...

    Just hatched peafoul HELP!!!!!!

I'm a new pea-mommy too. A couple months ago my sister gave me four pea babies whose mother had been killed by a bobcat the day the last one hatched out. Three of them didn't make it, I couldn't get them to eat the Start and Grow. My remaining pea-baby lives with my flock of chickens and his...

Thanks!!! So far, out of the 10 Murray McMurray sexed chicks I have, I think only one (a light Brahma) is a roo. I'm glad everyone thinks Buffy is a pullet. I ordered three BOs and two were DOA
