The layers roost in our barn's rafters maybe 12ft off the ground but our broilers and silkies can't fly so they sleep on a lower shelf in the barn, 3 ft off the ground. Last nights stake-out was a bust. We caught a possum prowling around but he was really just a baby.

Apparently the silkies my brother brought home were carrying more than lice. Four of my hens have clear, smelly mucus coming from their noses. The affected hens also have bright yellow diarrhea. Only one seems to be acting sick, kind of lethargic with a dull comb.
We have 15 chicks in a brooder...
I live in Southwestern Louisiana.
There's a skunk around here that my dad thinks is the culprit but I seriously doubt a skunk is capable of harming a full grown bird. Not a skunk right?
In the early morning, after 1 am, something got two of my big, over 15lb broilers. Following a trail of feathers I can see that whatever took them dragged them off their roost (Only maybe 3ft off the ground) and carried them 500 ft. to a ditch on our property. Then they ate them, eating...
