I am in So Cal looking for some small breed of hens, Bantam, Silkie, OEG hens, etc. I can't find anything at all like these in my area. What's up with that? All I want them for are spoiled pets! If anyone here has any for sale in my area, please let me know. Thanks!
Thanks guys! Yes, I am keeping them both, I think. If my other 2 roos will not pick on "Feathers". The Collie, "Sophie", goes out to the chicken pen several time a day to talk to "Feathers". It's the cutest darn thing! :)
I recently rescued a pair of friends. A collie with a chicken. They are best friends & want to hang out together all the time. my question is, what breed or cross breed is the chicken & is it a roo or hen? I have never seen one like it. It is very friendly & aprox. 4 months old. (Not sure...
I don't dust then but I put the dust in the nest area where they sleep under the straw or pine chips, whatever you use for bedding. I dust all the perches where they sleep & I add cedar chips in between the dusting powder & straw or pine chips. It works for me. I always treat the whole flock...
I was just wondering what is the normal number of clutches a brooder hen will hatch in one year? Does anyone know? I have a brooder hen, not sure what breed, that has been hatching out 3 clutches each summer. Is this normal and does anyone know what breed of chicken she is? She has large...
RIP my 17 year old hen. She died last week. We had a very hot week in California. Even with the misters & watering down the yard, I guess it was just too hot for her.
Here is my oldest white leg horn hen. She is over 17 yrs old. She looks a little "rough" & I have been thinking, (every day for the last 3 years), that she is going to die today. She is still here and happy!
P.S. She still lays an egg about once a week.
Yes! I’m glad to hear that I am not alone in using my chicken poop to fertilize my fruit trees & garden. My Son thought I was crazy for using it until he heard my neighbor yell over the fence one day, “Thanks for the chicken poop”.
The white chick is White Leg Horn, (Mom) & Fertile Fred (pic here) is the dad. I am not sure what breed Fertile Fred is but I would like to know. He is a rescue chicken I adopted.
