Okay, so we bought 7 Georiga bobwhite quail at a swap meet a few months ago-
When we brought them home we put them in the chicken coop (pretty open, and on the ground) where our old barnyard chickens used to be.. (they came from all over)---
We didnt clean the nesting boxes or coop out before...
My crazy rooster has been doing the same thing as of late-
He attacked my fiance when he went in there to get the eggs- and then he attacked my 3 year old son (bless his soul)-
he got a swift kick across the roost and hasnt attacked him since, but then just this morning i put my arm in there to...
Yes, we all know how pesky carpenter bees can be!
But fortunately, carpenters dont have stingers, they just dive bomb you if you are messing around their holes-
The best way to keep them at bay is to spray WD-30 into the hole, push foil back into the hole, and then caulk it. we live in a log...
Thanks so much for the great advice!
I know the feeling-- awful isnt it! I was a first time Silkie breeder- and was successful at doing so---
and they ate my whole flock only leaving feathers and memories behind... 2 hens and my 5 babies.... uck! :(
finally got a new Roo and have to get new...
Great thread!!! I am hoping to catch BOTH those with in the next couple nights!!! I have seen a red fox eyeballing my coop two weeks ago and racoon scuttle across the driveway two nights ago-- and one of those pesky creatures ate all 7 of my silkies!! and the eggs!!
I absolutely agree--- i mean, it was our fault for thinking for ONE night they would be okay untill we put a roof over the run-- bad idea! :(
but we have an identical coop next to it- with a roof and those ones are fine--
there are no gaps or openenings anywhere else in the cooop-- since they...
Okay- so last night we set up THREE fox traps in our chicken coop (no worries, chickens werent in there, dang fox ate em' all)--- we put the tree traps around the entrance to the coop-and put some eggs with honey in a box (where my silkie girls were brooding)--- that dang fox came into the coop...
youre exactly right! they just leave piles of feathers! i was literally speechless when my fiance called me yesterday and told me what happened no blood-- just feathers, all eggs broken- two hens and five baby silkies--- poof! gone!! right out of their coop!! i had no idea a fox could scale a...
You are correct- those things are so pesky!!
Whatever it was the night before, was back last night!!! but to his disapoinment-- we obviously did not replenish our flock a.) overnight and b.) untill the roof is put on!
We are also going to set up traps!
when we went outside last night to check...
@Honeysuckle- glad you found your culprit!
and to Susan- really Racoons?? hmm..interesting!!
All the eggs my sweet silkies were laying on were also broken onto the floor of their coop---
my better half said the killings must have happened inside the actual coop- and then whatever it was tried to...
It IS quite baffling how multiple chickens can go missing! ALL 7 of my silkies were gone this morning when we awoke and went out to feed them- there chicken coopand run is over 6 ft tall of wire- (however we completed it yesterday but didnt have time to put the roof on) and something got in...
