Hi Ditsydaisy, I spent a my childhood in Scotland, much further south than you though, between Edinburgh and Glasgow, often visited Forres, Elgin, Lossiemouth and Dornoch until about 20 years ago, now rarely get a chance 😩
Silkies and Polish are adorable, not the brightest birds though. I don’t...
🤣🤣🤣 yep, sure is! I’ve had something poultry related most of my adult life but always kept it under control, now I’m past caring about control and have a hatching addiction 🤦🏻♀️ The trouble is, they grow up too quickly 🤣🤣🤣
Hi, in my book you do 😁
Where in SW France are you, we used to live in the South East (St Maxime, Golfe de St Tropez) but moved back to the UK at the end of 2020. I’ve lived in a whole list of places too, from the top of the UK to the bottom (almost).
My bff from school lives in Sleaford, she’s...
Hi, Hampshire based, have ducks and chickens.
Addicted to hatching🤦🏻♀️ My babies are so confused with this awful weather, moulting is all out of whack, as is laying. I feel so sorry for them getting 30c one day and 13c the next.
Thanks, they're harder work than standard chickens but their cuteness and funny characters make them so adorable and worth the work and heartache. I'll definitely be getting more, but shhhhhh, keep it quiet as my other half says we have enough, and we all know that there can never be enough when...
I'm aware of duck/chicken physical differences and the consequences of cross mating, this was definitely not the case with pepper, I have lots of female ducks, far more than the standard ratio of male to females and our ducks avoid the chooks like the plague, even though the ducks (mostly) are...
The last few weeks have been hovering between 15 degrees C and 20C, cloud and rain interspersed with the odd bit of sunshine. Today was 24, predicted 25 mid week then dropping back to mid teens next week - pretty crappy for this time of year 😫
I'm used to the on/off laying with chickens; had chickens prior to this new start of ducks/chickens, they all lived longer than predicted and it was after the final one died of old age that we decided to go back to ducks and chickens, but silkies are new to me.
Ginger is 14 months old, so not...
That's useful to know, weird that she's stopped laying though. She's not molting or eggbound, she has a good diet with plenty of extras and she looks healthy, especially when she's chasing the ducks away from food 🤣
Hi all, I had two silkies (ginger and pepper), they live with lots of ducks and have since birth. We lost pepper about 3 months ago (she just died in the middle of the day for no apparent reason but we suspect neuro issues), both were laying and as we didn't want ginger to be alone at night...
She’s a little fighter and will peck at the other chicks I have, a mix of big chicken chicks who are all about 6 times her size, we’re not leaving her in with them as they’re too boisterous for her. She’s in a brooder box next to their brooder and will get short bursts with them every day until...
Hi, she’s been like it since birth, her legs were straddles so I taped them with vet tape and she’s been waddling around, she also had one claw out of place which I taped, this is now fine and having removed the tape from her lower legs she’s not splaying her legs any more, but she’s lopsided...
