    Solar powered will definitely be a lot more expensive - if you're near AC power, I'd go with that as the cheaper route. You could also run a battery powered controller which is what I do, off a 12v marine deep cycle battery - you have to charge the battery every 6-8 weeks with a charger though...

    electric fences and ground rods

    i think this is the best way to set up an electric fence by far - use the fence as a ground as well as a grounding rod. Much more effective than just using the rod itself. I think I'm going to add an LED light on the side of my fence so I know when it's energized and the kids do too... Quote:
