Broody hen with a leg infection.

I have an otherwise healthy, yet broody, 2 y/o Barred Rock with a nasty looking infection. She won't walk on it, but she's getting around by hopping. I've isolated her after washing it thoroughly and have applied some antibiotic ointment. Anything else i should/could do? She's...

Wicked head wound on a hen

That’s good to know, as the wounds look very similar. She survived the night on our enclosed porch, so I am hoping that she’ll make it. Thanks for replying.

Wicked head wound on a hen

She was familiar to the other two, not new at all. Will try the saline/neosporin route and see how that goes. Keeping her separated while in the run could be a challenge. Stay tuned.

Wicked head wound on a hen

Backyard flock of 2 groups. This girl was in a large run with 2 others. I came out this afternoon to find this poor girl hiding in the upstairs coop. The wound is a wicked one but she’s eating and drinking like a champ now that I have her separated. I would hate to prematurely euthanize, but...

We have a rat problem which i'm addressing by removing feed/water at night and setting zappers all around. Could rat bites and other hens...

Mother and chicks still together after 3 months - problem?

Thanks for the replies. There's only one ringleader, who is a very assertive Easter Egger. I'll move her out of the run for a couple of days and see if that brings stasis back to the flock. Will keep you posted. thanks, DMM

Mother and chicks still together after 3 months - problem?

I have a hyper-broody Orpington hen that has hatched two sets of eggs. After the first group reached 6 weeks, she separated herself from them in textbook fashion ('leave me alone' peckings, foraging on her own, etc). However, the second group of two pullets is now 3 months old and she is still...
