    Did I get a Banty?

Happy to report I now believe “Rio” is a pullet! Over the moon excited. “Dinner” still fiercely looking out for the 3 little girls, but not at all smart. Still tiny enough the big girls scare him. 😂

    Did I get a Banty?

Ok thanks! I’ll be relying on him to protect my girls, he’s shown himself well qualified already. He’s a cutie, too. He’s “dinner” because I have a sick sense of humor and I’m running out of name ideas 😂. My neighbors look at me funny when I yell “Dinner!”

    Did I get a Banty?

Hey everyone, I got 4 new "Easter Egger" chicks on April 30th from the feed store. They were SUPPOSED to all be a day or two old. I'm wondering if I got a Banty, because his comb was red at 4 weeks and he's grabbing the girls by the backs of their necks and an obvious born leader. I have no...

    Easter egger sexing

Mine took forever to lay but they both do. And they have different tail types. I’ve had an EE hen in the past that looked like yours and her tail was really tall and stood up like that too. I think there’s enough variety in this “breed” that the comb is the easiest way to tell first, and then...

    Easter Egger Rooster?

Yes. I agree. Even in breeds like this with small combs, when you compare the two his is larger and redder. I‘m no expert, but I’ve found myself learning the hard way. It’s not practical for me to have roosters since I have close neighbors, but I’ve made the same discovery you have way too many...

8-9 week RIR - sexing help!

Omg I think they are right. I’ve been burned before too, SEVERAL times getting roosters from supposed pullets but I can’t blame TS. I live in the “burbs” with close neighbors so I’ve had to rehome way too many roosters. Apparently sexing hatchlings isn’t an easy task cause they seem to get it...

    Fox attack. Injured Rooster

Thanks for sharing your experience. I know this little guy could probably continue to "live" with the constant attention he's been getting this last three weeks but I don't see how he will ever be able to walk again. I feel so bad watching him sit there and try to scoot around, and when it...

    Fox attack. Injured Rooster

So it's three weeks now and no improvement on being able to put any weight on his right leg. He's back in the coop with his girls, but unable to move around himself. So he relies on me to put him down in the run to hang out and get groomed by his girls, then put him up in his sling for...

    Fox attack. Injured Rooster

O.K. I think I actually managed to upload a video to YouTube. Kinda heartbreaking but here you go: In the video you can see how he is 'bent' to the right side. When he sits in his sling he even leans to that right side, like his equilibrium is off. That is the side where he can't put...

    Fox attack. Injured Rooster

Update: Tomorrow is two weeks since my fluffy friend was attacked and injured. I was out of town and my parents cared for him for 4 days. Dad is a life-long show pigeon raiser who hand rears babies for show and so is used to tube feeding birds. They did amazingly well with him, my mom even...

    Fox attack. Injured Rooster

Ummmmm, that will require the assistance of my teenager.....but thanks for letting me know! I thought it was me (usually is!) I have to go out of town for a few days. My parents are going to rooster sit since I don't trust the teenager to remember or be able to care for him. Dad is a...

    Fox attack. Injured Rooster

Tubing a chicken is a chore....have forced a few milliliters of electrolytes down a couple of times. He’s perked up a bit, eats a few bites of scrambled eggs and a few bites of creamed corn (he loves corn SO much). Still concerned he’s not eating enough. Just tubing fluids at this point to fight...
