I have 4 roosters for 10 hens right now, by accident. All Silkie roosters. It’s so funny because they stay outside of the run, in a separate pasture. The roosters slip through the fence, the big girls do not. But they come in JUST to eat, drink, and mate... then eventually they run off & stick...
It’s supposed to be uhm... caffeine free? Well used, harmless, made-for-chickens sold by rural king. But Im kind of wondering now, do I believe the labeling? I tried reading up on the topic & most say it’s safe but I’m starting to become doubtful.
Alllllll my chicks shake their heads. Real fast, almost twitch like. None of my adults do this. I cannot find any mites, lice, etc.
I use coffee ground bedding..... and I do need a larger space for them. Could the coffee ground bedding be making them twitch? Id feel terrible. Also, quick make...
I’m wondering if it’s such a bad pairing that I shouldn’t allow it? Idk, I guess chicken breeding isn’t as serious as say... dog or horse breeding. It’s not like I’d be marketing & selling these offspring. 🤣
It really looked like he got the deed done. What would these chicks be like if I let them hatch? Honestly I’m shocked, he went from being bullied, to the hens completely laying down for him. 🤣
Here’s my youngest that I’m thinking should just be kept inside. What do you think? I believe they are 2wks. The yellow one shown is massive lol but the rest are about as feathered as the black & white chick shown.
I’ll show you with chicks inside. To be truthful, I’ve had this metal on metal (pen touching lamp) set up for weeks 🤣 I considered the same issues so I sat around & made sure it didn’t melt or turn hot to touch. So there’s that at least, but good looking out. I’m thinking I’m probably overkill...
