I am trying to treat my year old Orpington, badly injured by a coon(we think). She has a gash behind one leg and a bad gash on her neck. She barely raises her head and I can only drip sugar water on her beak, she does take a little in. I have treated the wounds with peroxide and neosporin, but...
I found out yesterday evening that glasses won't always save your eyes. Mine must have slipped down a little. I knew she was going to peck me, but thought I was safe because of my glasses! Ouch, going to the Dr now... I may need to wear goggles! LOL
I would guess female. My profile picture is a male polish, at just about 6 weeks. Just before we moved them to the coop, one of the 4 males we had began trying to crow. All of them had waddles. We had to give the roosters away because we are not allowed to have roosters in Newport News, VA. Now...
So Polish Crested hens have waddles too? Only 4 of my 12 Polish Crested have waddles, and at least 2 of those have been crowing. They were all supposed to be hens, and I am not allowed to have roosters in town. I am trying to figure out if the ones with waddles are roosters or not since I...
I have 4 PC that at 7 weeks have wattles, and at least 2 of these have been seen and heard trying to crow. Certainly not a sound any of my other chicks have made. I may have to re-home 4, any ideas who would like some PC roosters? They look almost identical to the first picture in this post...
So it seems, fights almost breakout when one of them spots one. They stand on the scooper when I am cleaning the brooder in case they see one, and they have really good eyesight!
Thank you all for responding.
I hope you are right. I cleaned the brooder last night and saw just a few maggot looking worms under the water dish, and two in the actual wood chip litter. I even looked at a few of their behinds and they were clean. Also no worms in poop, and I looked closely. Thanks for responding!
They are still in the brooder, and will not be free range. They have a very nice coop waiting but some bad weather has delayed their transfer. We had 80-90+ degree weather for a week and flies were around that week. I am hoping that I saw insect larvae, but will look into your worming advise...
My 2 month old chickens always rush to the spot where I keep their water dish, and I finally discovered why. Yesterday when I was cleaning the water dish, I found little worms on the bottom of the dish. They look like little maggots without the dark heads or tails ( I don't know which is...
