Thanks everyone. I don't have a wire crate like this, but I guess I can get one.
I'm frustrated because the other chick I got at the same time as Mrs. Broody turned out to be a rooster, so I rehomed him. Then one of the other two just doesn't lay--the few times she did, her eggs came out long...
Hello. I have three hens and live in Northern California. For going on three weeks, one (best layer) is obsessively sitting in her nest, trying to hatch invisible eggs. I don't know what to do about it. I have tried:
* Locking her out of the nest during the day. She just walks around fluffed...
I'm sorry, save what? They are not molting and this has been going on way too long for that.

Thanks! I'm in California, near San Francisco. I'm feeding a layer mash, this stuff: https://rivertownfeed.com/chicken-feed/layer-feed/ I give them about two scoops a day, so maybe a cup per bird? I don't free range. The chickens are about a year and a half.
Hello. I have an ongoing problem that is frustrating me. I've had chickens for about 10 years, usually about 3-4 at a time.
About two years ago, my two youngish (about 2 years) hens stopped laying eggs. The other black chicken of the flock also slowed down production. I was very perplexed. I...
One of them does have a few feather lice. I've never treated for that before. Should I just spray the chickens with a mite spray? That seems like it will be fun. :)
I'm in Northern California, btw.
Hi. I have three hens and they haven't laid for over a month and a half. I'm very frustrated. Two are about two years old and one is four years old. I've never had problems before. They look healthy. They don't have mites, they're energetic, and don't seem sick at all. They aren't molting or...
I think the lump has grown a bit. Here's a picture of my bird (the image above was from another thread). There's no scab. It's hard to the touch and doesn't hurt/isn't sensitive. I don't want to take her to the vet...
I live in Northern California. The mites are not severe. I did see them on the black chicken, but I had to hunt around for them. I'm going to take care of it today.
I guess it could be molting. I hope so. It doesn't explain the lump on the black one's face though...
Thanks. This is a picture from the thread I referenced above, but the lump looks exactly like this. I don't have a rooster and I don't think it's pecking. She's the top hen and they are pretty gentle and don't seem to attack each other. It could be molting, but she just molted a couple of months...
