Hi-
My 1-1/2 year old Black Sex Link has been listless lately and just this afternoon I saw her lay down with her wings out spread on the ground. I saw from a distance her vent looked red and raw but as of yet I have not been able to catch her. I'd say it's Gleet, but the outspread wings has me...
My hens are starting to lay, how long to you keep the Fake Eggs in the Boxes?
I have two nesting boxes, each of which has a fake egg in it. Once the Birds started to lay I took the fake egg out of the Box they were using and they switched to laying in the box with the fake egg.
Clearly these...
So proud. I found it in the nesting box- first try just like you hope for.
Think it was from the Black Sex-link, her butt was particularly fluffy in the evening. She's almost exactly 5 months old.
Now the two New Hampshire Reds need to step it up.
Well i can say when i checked to see if the Chicks were in on the 11th, which was their projected arrival date, the Staff said they had been shipped and were expected in on the 12th. I had pre-ordered my Chicks and was excited to get them. They did arrive on the 12th and they called me as stated...

Does anyone have experience with a power outage when your chicks are in the brooder and counting on the heat lamp?
Do you bring them inside and put them by the fireplace?
My Brooder Box is a cage made of hardware cloth. 3'x3'x2' high, for 3 chicks. So would putting the pad on top be better than making a cover on top of the pad area?
Thanks for the earlier reply.
A friend gave me a water bed heater, which is a pad that's 18"x30" and has an external probe. In theory it can be set to exact temperatures from 60 to 90+ degrees. I have a cover for it so it wouldn't come into direct contact with the chicks but it still radiates the heat.
Is there any reason I...
