    first egg!

    So proud. I found it in the nesting box- first try just like you hope for. Think it was from the Black Sex-link, her butt was particularly fluffy in the evening. She's almost exactly 5 months old. Now the two New Hampshire Reds need to step it up.

    What to do when the power goes out whilst your Chicks are in the Brooder

    Does anyone have experience with a power outage when your chicks are in the brooder and counting on the heat lamp? Do you bring them inside and put them by the fireplace?

    My Brooder Box is a cage made of hardware cloth. 3'x3'x2' high, for 3 chicks. So would putting the pad on top be better than making a cover on top of the pad area? Thanks for the earlier reply.
