X pounds when mature. When is "maturation"?

when looking at the info for chicken breeds we see stats, such 2-3kg weight for chickens when mature. Now when is that, at 6 months, which is roughly their sexual maturation date? Also is that live or dressed weight? Thanks,

21 week old hens not laying

anyone recommending artificial light, say from 2-3am? Or will it hurt the rest. My chickens are used to go out early so they'll have to stay for 4 hours inside.

Scabs around eyes, cold, lethargic chick

all the flock has been on Tylosin (2 weeks ago), something for cocci, dewormed, general antibiotic 3-4 days after birth etc. A lot of them have respiratory issues...driving me nuts. They have a lot of room inside and out and their coop is floored with concrete. I clean every 2-3 days with water...

Scabs around eyes, cold, lethargic chick

It could be, they are quite a few together, from 7-8lbs roosters and chicks that look really small. They thing is that they were separated for 6 weeks and still a few of them remained really small, stunted. I fed them 22% protein concentrate for the first 3-4 weeks and then they had a lot of...

Scabs around eyes, cold, lethargic chick

So I noticed this chick being lethargic and then saw the eyes. Fowl pox? Or something else? Totally isolated her and awaiting on what to do. I've also noticed that sick chicks have lower temps...or maybe they seem that way. Thanks

    Hatching Eggs with Mebendazole

Never came with instructions...but then I paid 60 cents for 10 pieces of 100mg. The vet told me to give today, skip tomorrow and give the day after the next dose. But I'm giving them 3 days in the row as a study suggests that's better. Yes, Mebendazole is used for chickens...

    Hatching Eggs with Mebendazole

Today in the morning (diff time zone :) I treated my chickens with mebedazole, around 30mg /kg live weight. However, I could use some eggs to complete the incubator. Are today's eggs safe, considering that I just gave them today and I think the egg was formed before the med was given? Second...

Large breeds vs smaller ones - Feed

Thanks guys, Thanks but honestly, feeding them, it's not that hard. In the morning mine get some corn + wheat. They go out all day eating grass, dirt, small rocks, compost pile, insects when time comes and then later get some more. They are in excellent shape, produce plenty of eggs and they...

Large breeds vs smaller ones - Feed

Thanks. So what I was really asking is the conversion ratio. As for the corn+wheat diet, it's good enough :) . It's not economical to buy the mixed feed, costs at least twice and I want to eat about 100 of them a year. I am willing to live with less eggs and less growth. Too fast of the growth...

Large breeds vs smaller ones - Feed

Hi guys, I have a few questions, I hope you can help me with: Do larger breeds eat, say 2-3 times more than smaller breeds (in relation to their weight?) Or are they more efficient, forage more etc. I have the resources, cheap corn, wheat and place to forage. At what age does their tastes the...

Adding a specific rooster - Impact on flock

Thanks. Will, in my case, get any Sussex traits? I want to get 4-5 different breeds that I like (Sussex, Australop, Brahma and Cochin) and let them mingle. Will their traits be shared as the rooster might be Brahma and the hen Sussex and so on? I want chickens with a lot of meat, eggs and...

Adding a specific rooster - Impact on flock

Hi everyone, I want to improve my flock but it's hard to just order what I want and grown pullets and rooster cost as much as $100 here. If I buy 2 Sussex roosters and remove the other roosters, what chance is there that some of the upcoming chicks will be Sussex? Thanks
