One more question. I saw this response to another thread on here which had me concerned: "Chickens dont get colds, they get a specific disease which requires specific medication. Respiratory diseases spread to other birds, surviving birds are carriers for life and it's best to cull sick birds."...
Does VetRX work the same as Tylan? I looked up chicken antibiotics and that came up in the results. Thank you for the advice, I will try the scrambled eggs with garlic and the ACV as well.
It does look similar to that, maybe a bit more watery with an orange tinge. I'm a fairly new chicken owner and I didn't know they did a poop like that daily. (And yes, the smell is awful.)
I can order Tylan in couple days. Do you think plain yogurt might help them as well? Any other short term...
Hi everyone,
Over a month ago I bought some new Ayam Cemani chickens (and three silkies) that I put in quarantine away from my others. Everything seemed to be fine at first, they looked perky and energetic, but then I noticed that there was some yellowish-brown diarrhea on the ground (half the...
Me too, that's why I made this thread. :/ I guess I'm not alone in this. I currently have four roosters in my main flock, but Big Guy is the one that is having the hardest time. I've considered asking around, but it's hard to find someone that wants a rooster.
I'd be even less likely to do that. Roo is one of my tamest roosters and very good at protecting the flock of 30+ hens. He's also the son of my favorite hen. He's not going anywhere.
I'm attached to Big Guy but he's no good for protecting the flock anymore. His spurs are gone. I assumed it...
Hi guys,
I have a rooster, his name is 'Big Guy', who I picked to manage a small flock of hens that I kept separate from the others. He was a good roo with the girls and tame and easy for me to handle. Flash forward about two years and this small flock of hens is incorporated with my big one...
Thank you, everyone. Sadly, I chose to cull her in the end as, despite my efforts, she was not recovering and I did not want her to suffer further. Was too upset to update this post sooner. She was culled shortly after my second post.
She clucked a few times this morning and I saw her sit a couple times as well, though she generally went right back to standing. Her crop is still full, though I believe it is only half the size it was yesterday, so maybe some progress?
What worries me is that there is yellow looking poop in...
One of my Gold Sex Link hens, 'Goldie' was attacked by my dog yesterday (family member accidentally let the dog out while the chickens were still free ranging). By the time I found out about it it was already turning dark and I could not find her that night. I found her the next morning standing...
https://www.statnews.com/2017/10/19/backyard-chicken-disease/
I was a bit annoyed by this article (linked now on Drudge), stating that you can easily get disease from your Backyard Chickens, and to never treat them as pets, but to instead treat them like every one is diseased ... What do you...
None of my birds have gone broody except for one Rhode Island Red. Then she gave up on her nest halfway through. I'm not sure why my chickens won't go broody. I have 32 hens, most over one year in age. .-.
