    Mean Rooster at 11 weeks?

I planned out my chicks very carefully for breed and sex. I bought 14 hens and 1 rooster. The hatchery sent me a "surprise" chick for free making it a total of 16 chicks. They are about 11 weeks old. One of the buff orpingtons died at about 7 weeks for unknown reasons. The possible problem...

1 week old chick suddenly dying

I have no idea what it could be, but I have 16 2 week old chicks. One became very lethargic about a week ago and also stopped eating and drinking. I found this remedy suggestion on a site called Chickenlandia. It worked like a charm. Make a weak green tea. Let it cool, then add electrolytes...

Water in or out of the coop

Thanks, that makes sense. The chickens will be able to come and go as they please except for nighttime when I will lock them in the coop. I guess the question is can they safely go from dusk till dawn without access to water?

Water in or out of the coop

I haven't had chickens for a few years, but am getting back into it and am planning my coop design. I remember before that water always got spilled in the coop and made a mess. Is it necessary for the chickens to have water IN the coop if they are let out into the run everyday.

    New here

Hi everyone, I’m new here and very excited to get my chicks in 3 weeks. I’m a city girl, wanna be country girl - and actually “girl” is a bit of a stretch. I’m an almost retired bookkeeper, too. I had chickens about 5 years ago and loved them. My little flock grew from 11 to 20...
