    Pariah Hen

I'm running out of options for my poor hen. I separated her for a while and dewormed her, and she improved - feathers grew back on her head, she started laying again and was doing well considering she was alone and could only see the other chickens when they were out in the yard or she was and...

    Pariah Hen

Thank you for your advice. She reacts to my hand on both sides of her head, and her eyes look the same. She does look and feel like she has lost weight. Once I penned her up separately, her appetite seemed good when I sprinkled pellets on the ground. There is only one feeder in the big coop...

    Pariah Hen

My small flock has had a lot of upset this week, and I need some advice. Up until a few days ago, I had a 5 year old Isa Brown hen and a 4 year old Australorp hen who were first and second in the flock, plus two 9mo old Rhode Island Red hens and a RIR rooster (not by choice - chicks were not...

Impacted or sour crop in chicken

I came home early from work to take her to the vet, and found that she had died. The only comfort I can take is that she was comfortable, warm and safe in a quiet place for her last days.

Impacted or sour crop in chicken

Thanks Kathy! I wish it were under better circumstances. I could take her to a vet, but with what I've read of people's experiences, I'm feeling like I'll get better advice here.

Impacted or sour crop in chicken

She was doing OK last night - she didn't eat anything all day, but was a bit more feisty when I tried to get water down her, and she moved back into the crate from where I left her just outside it for a short time, and stood up - both for the first time on her own. I slowly got about 40ml of...

Impacted or sour crop in chicken

Thank you for the article. Her "vomit" smelled poopy at first, but after I got the thick pasty stuff out of her, it has smelled sour, somewhat similar to human or dog vomit. The green would be rotten food, as she doesn't have access to grass. She finally pooped a little today for the first...

Impacted or sour crop in chicken

Hi, One of my Australorp crosses turned up ill late yesterday. These are my first chickens, and this is the first time one has been unwell. She'd been standing in the same place for some time, so my husband let me know when I got home. Her bottom was all crusted with poop, her wings...
