Hi, so I’m currently sat out with my chickens on the garden. And I was on my phone when I noticed it was very quiet, I looked and all my chickens were stood completely still, most of them on one leg, staring up at the sky. I thought it was probs just a bird of prey that we usually get but no one...
Hi since I posted one chicken has been put down by the vets, but the other issues still stand although the vet says it is most likely a combo of feather picking during a natural molt. I was also told my chickens may be more prone to certain illnesses due to being laying hybrids and having a high...
Hi, so I have a small flock on my back garden who just seem to always get sick
I’ve had them coming up a year, and we’ve already spent a couple of hundred pounds on vet bills. They’ve had parasites, they now have vent gleet, and they’ve seen the vets twice already now.
First it was new chickens...
Okay so little update, we’ve cut out scratch from their diet completely for a week now, and every few days they’ve been fed some form of meat. Except for one day when they were given a corn on the cob with calcium powder and mealworms on it. But the pecking has continued and a couple of them...
I’ll be sure to check the % for their diet, and i assume the medicine is approved for chickens as it was prescribed for them by the doctor who looked them over, who was a chicken specialist since our local vet didn’t do poultry.
I use sawdust in the coop and hay in the nest boxes. They’ve already had their second lot of medication, its a monthly dose. And I don’t remember exactly what the treatment was called, but it said it was parasite treatment for both small mammals and birds. It was similar to a dogs flee treatment...
Also here are some photos of the chickens condition. Couldn’t get a clear photo cause they kept pecking the camera through the fence. Believe it or not they were actually worse before the treatment. There skin was red and some of them had sores on their stomachs. It’s now gone for pink/white and...
Do saddle pads cover all the chicken? It’s mostly her stomach, legs and butt area which are worst, her back doesn’t seem too bad. Also they are given a calcium powder on chopped veg or sprinkled on a corn on the cob twice a week. The coop is roughly just over 8 foot long, and 7 foot wide...
They get let out into the garden daily to dust bathe, as their coop is mostly either bark or a bit muddy due to the time of year. We weren’t told to treat the coop, only to increase cleaning which we have been doing.
Hi Everyone 👋
So I’d like to ask everyone, how many treats they feed their chickens, what treats and how often.
Basically, my chickens are losing feathers and according to the vets it’s a parasite in their skin, which they are on medication for. However they also pluck at each other a lot and...
