A little later this morning I will take her out of the crate, change the towels and pine I put in there and check her rearend. She did eat a little bit more last night. HELP!!! Need help with sick hen.

Okay, washed her rear end with baby shampoo. Dried her real good. Put her into a dog crate with shavings and towels with a heat lamp over it to keep her nice and dry and warm. Put a container of yogurt in for her along with a container of water. She isn't interested in either the food or water...

HELP!!! Need help with sick hen.

Just came in from putting a heat lamp on her. She is in a nice quiet place. Will bring her into the house and wash her butt and make sure she is dry before putting her back out into the hen house. Will also get some yogurt and pedialyte. Will stop the Tetracyline and fresh vegies/greens...

HELP!!! Need help with sick hen.

Need help pretty quickly. Hen is not feeling well at all. She is over a year old. Puffed up. Dirty poopy butt. Found her this morning wedged between the wall and food bin. Cold to the touch, but alive. Her poo is very watery. No discharge from mouth or nostrils. Breathing clear. She hasn't...

Young hens attacking older submissive hen.

Hi all. I'll try to keep this short. Three months ago our neighbor's hen and rooster decided they wanted to take up residence here. Fine. They are both at least a year old. I have hens ( they haven't laid any eggs yet) who are four months old that I raised. The older rooster keeps 'violating'...

Nesting boxes with or without a top

Citychook-- How deep are your shavings on the floor? Thanks for the picture. I went ahead and put a nice thick blanket of pine shavings on the long shelf for them to hopefully like and want to lay eggs there. Today was their first day to get used to it. Gosh, so much to learn!

    When is it safe to.......

That is kind of what I was thinking. He wants to get 'to 'know' the hens. Are they too young to turn loose with him? He is huge compared to them. Will he tear them up when he is, you know. I also have a White Silkie rooster who is also three months old. Will Stew Pot hurt little Bob-A-Loo? Oh...

    When is it safe to.......

Hi all. I don't know what I would do without this forum. As a first time chicken owner I have so much to learn. My chickens are three months old now. They have been kept in an enclosed area ( coop with big outside run). I would very much like to let them loose out into the yard and pasture...

    Mottle Houdan question

Thanks. I was fairly positive after looking at your pics that the one is hen, but the other one just looks differant. I tried posting a bigger pic of them both together, but can't seem to figure out how to get it bigger to see better. Well, that would put it at three roosters here, ( a large...

Here are several pics of the Mottled Houdans. Hope you can see them clearly enough to hopefully know what sex they are. Thanks.

    Mottle Houdan question

Thank you ever so much for the info. By the looks of the pictures, I have one for sure hen. I'll have to pick up the other one and take a good look at his/her face and compare it to the pics. I had a Polish Laced rooster who started crowing a few weeks ago so knew right away he was a he. Then...

Nesting boxes with or without a top

Wow. Thanks for the info. Very much appreciated. Since this is the first time I have raised chickens, and have no idea which type of nest box they are going to prefer, well, I will give them a choice of covered and uncovered. I love the idea of kitty litter pans with lids. I have a clean, no...

    Mottle Houdan question

Hello. I have two Mottled Houdans and have a question about their disposition. I have noticed that the Houdans are nearly as 'bright' as my Americaunas, White Silkies or Polish Laced. The rest of the chickens know the daily routine, but for some reason the Houdans just don't get it. When I put...

Nesting boxes with or without a top

Hi. My chickens are three months old now and I have been told that it is time to build nest boxes. So, of course I came here, looked at pictures posted, read the info, etc.. I noticed that most nesting boxes are actually a type of box ( sides and roof/top). Do they have to have tops? There is a...
