    Where to get pullets?

The "chick days" at our tractor supply are over until next year.

And you may want to check on zoning and local stuff for your area before you get started as to what is required permit wise and so forth.

Show me your DIY Chicken Coops/Runs/Etc. (Please!)

I'm new too. We inherited a coop with attached mini run but want to expand the run. If you have a feed store like Tractor Supply you could visit, I find a lot of employees there have chickens of their own and advice for the area (plus the supplies right there to point you to). Being in MD near...

Made a tool for cleaning the run

Hey, I'm new to all this and just wanted to let you know I appreciate your post. I was trying to figure out how to sift the poop out of the run. And considering you and the NASA both utilized 1/2" hardware cloth, I think that says a lot! :)

    Meet the Inflation Chicken

Where do you live? We were set on free ranging but we're in Virginia so there are hawks, foxes, raccoons, and on it goes. I'm wondering if it would just be better to make an enclosure with cover. We were planning to be out with them a lot but I've heard accounts of hawks taking chickens right in...

    Such thing as runts?

I have a green egger and isas as well! :) I just found this thread searching for 'runt'. I got all my chicks at the same time. They were all the same size except the green egger was a bit bigger- probably a day or two older than the 5 isas and others. Anyway, 2 weeks in it was obvious that one...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Yes I don't want to shock them. Unfortunately the need for more space coincides with a week of much colder weather! Sigh. There is no way my new brooder will fit through the door to get it into the house. It is that big. And I was told the current heat source won't work below 50 which my garage...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Thanks, all! Yes I mean F for temperature. I'll have to measure how cold it gets in the garage. I know it reached 32F when it was 5F and windy outside 2 months ago. Garage is cooler area due to shadows and so forth. I have some homework set out for me! Thanks again!

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Hi all, I have been reading through the posts on this thread and others a few hrs and just don't have time for any more today lol. So thought I should just ask straight up regarding my specific scenario instead to get advice from the experts ;). I have 12 chicks about a week old. They are...

Have a male...what would you do?

Thanks. I need to hear these things. I do have some younger children and their safety is top priority

Have a male...what would you do?

we have winters but they're not that bad. Va/Md/DC area. I'd probably just use a different shed 8 feet away rather than modify, I've decided.

Have a male...what would you do?

Yikes! This is why I appreciate this board. Don't underestimate the power of hormones, right? For the record these chicks are all 1 week old, max. We do have another shed outside right next to the coop that could be used... I'd just need to add more ventilation and so forth. It was a storage...

Have a male...what would you do?

That is too funny. Ours is very close to that style and I was just telling hubby that we could always add plywood to wall the whole thing in to make a bigger coop! Thanks for the link / visual!!

Have a male...what would you do?

Sorry, I'm a newbie to this obviously and all this terminology. This was built by previous owners of our new place. I can provide a picture in the morning. The roof is 4x11.5. The 'walls' are small gapped metal fencing from the ground up. There is a raised area that can be completely closed in...

How many chickens would that support?
