That makes me so happy to hear. I'm so glad that people will get a chance to see what state they are in, but more importantly how well the respond to being treated properly.
Thanks!
Sorry for the delay. One of my chooks got really sick and I had to tend to her and take her to the vet. She recovered miraculously!
I ran out of time, but I managed to dig up two pictures of my first batch of rescue chooks. I didn't find any good early pictures of the second batch, but I picked...
I may be a bit thick, as I'm not entirely sure if you want me to send a few high res pictures of 'before' and as many 'after' as I can find.
Btw, I just wrote down a little eulogy for Boudie (Boudicea) that I lost last week and found this amazing picture of her that was taken just a week after...
That is a seriously cute chook!
I would be happy to rummage through my pictures for a few high res pictures from before and after.
I'm sorry my reply took some time, but I must have mis-clicked somewhere, as I didn't get any notification that there was a reply.
I'll keep a closer eye on...
You definitely should!
It's not only a very kind thing to do, but it's also extremely rewarding, I'm loving it!
I don't want to elaborate on the details of what I've learned about the chicken industry as it's too depressing, but the main reason is that they have a few months of decreased egg...
Thanks, and I'm glad to hear that you're speaking about this.
I recently joined SAFE (https://www.safe.org.nz/) here in New Zealand to try to make a difference. I donate to their chicken campaigns on a monthly basis.
I was writing a little memory page for my beloved BOudie whi died yesterday...
I had to get some closure on this thread. Boudie started to deteriorate after she returned and eventually wouldn't eat or drink. I knew where it was heading, so I took a few snaps of her very last morning (which turned out to be the case) and what a beautiful morning it was:
She struggled over...
I've had 12 (9 still alive) of these incredible birds. They are all rescue birds, so I've only known them from when they were 18 months old, but they are amazing birds. Fairly quiet, very active and completely hilarious; they give me so much joy. They just seem to love life.
I normally wait a...
Yes, I experienced feral chickens on Cook Islands a few months back. I was glad to free chooks, but it's terrible to see them killed. It breaks my heart.
I hope there is, or someone would start, an animal welfare organisation to manage the wild chicken population.
She is soooo happy. You should see her dashing around not knowing if she should eat the apple, have a dust bath, sun bathe, peck around in the dirt, sit on the eggs, eat or just run around madly :-)
The transformation is incredible. It's so wonderful that they still can recover as well as they can after such prolonged abuse.
I've intentionally left out what I know of the environment my chooks come from. It's too depressing. The main thing is that the few I've saved are spoilt rotten!
Ha! I didn't know that!
I've not seen Georgina fly, but that doesn't mean she hasn't flown. A few of the others have had a few fairly impressive flights, especially when they get excited. There has been the odd 'not so gracious' landing, but they quite often take flight and land like it was...
It was my "chicken contact" who has saved all the chooks in my care. It was a friend of a friend who got me in contact with her.
The factory she normally got them from had closed down (and changed into a another line of business), but she managed to get in contact with a person at another...
