The babies are hatched! I’m exhausted so not many pics today. Had to do 3 hatch assists (upside down) and one of them hatched but had its head stuck in the egg 🤦 another one had the membrane stuck to its eye like a pirate LOL. Then I processed a male (first time! Went well. Def never plucking...
Lockdown has been set as of yesterday and today we have wigglers! I’m thinking pips tomorrow night? Perhaps hatching day 17 if I’m lucky!
The spoiled baby is definitely smaller than the rest. I took a pic where another chick was next to it for reference. It’s still growing, but it’s slower...
So update - the little baby is still very spoiled. I actually think it might be a runt because it’s noticeably smaller than the others.
These photos were taken a couple days ago which was the last time I let it cuddle by itself before I have now let it stay in the brooder. It stopped crying...
Update: We have a very spoiled chick who cries constantly, but if it gets special attention, it stops. It’s just this one, none of the others do it.
I have conceded. It’s now a lap quail and I wrap it in a heated towel and it falls right asleep.
I hope you’re a hen for all this effort 🤣
I didn’t get a refund for the experience because I kinda felt bad, I had the impression that this person was a hobbyist and I would feel mean saying anything. I know that’s just me probably being too nice but I really do feel bad saying something 😭♥️ They had refunded me for the cracked eggs on...
So here’s the first hatch results!
9/12 hatched total. It seems we have another all-white baby too. The babies are super strong and had absolutely no issues getting out, hatching very quickly from one another, and were out in an hour and a half from first hatch. They hatched around 10:30 PM EST...
I think a lot of factors came into play - when I got the eggs, I didn’t have a proper candler and I also used a Temu incubator (it was $30 so I didn’t want to commit to anything more just yet, lol). I think many were cracked on arrival because multiple became rotted. I only saw that after I...
Oh wow I'm so sorry, that's awful!!! Every experience helps us learn even though some can be quite painful.
I want to get into bantams eventually but I'd like to get a proper aviary before I do. I am considering button quails in the meantime, away from my coturnix. The colorful egg variety...
No one is out yet, but only 3 of 12 haven’t pipped yet! Number 1 seemed to be wiggling a lot and is super determined to get out so I do think today is its day. I heard it chirp from inside a little as well. More cracks have developed. No one has done any zips yet.
More updates! We have pips! I’m thinking I’ll see someone out by the time I wake up, maybe two, but I’m curious what everyone else’s bets are.
Some moved a lot because the dresser the incubator is on got bumped (whoops).
