Hey folks, I know it's been quite sometime since this thread has been active, but I could really use the advice from experienced swan owners!
I've recently taken on a volunteer position helping a friend at a local bird sanctuary. The old owner died, my friend with no idea how to care for birds...
So, sadly I lost my one little lavender chick today... I had put them in the outdoor brooder when it was warm and then we had a cold front come in so I put a heat lamp in there and was still worried so I brought the little guy in for the night... this morning he was peeping loudly and running...
Of the 8 that hatched, 3 are silkie feathered. Sadly the lav isn't, but I'm still keeping him :-) hopefully I'll get an idea of the sexes soon so I can get an idea of who's staying and who's going

Went to start my eggtopsy and could hear peeps coming from one of the eggs. This guy pipped internally but hadn't broken the shell yet. Oh the other 8 eggs, 2 were early deaths (shortly after day 7) 4, maybe 5 were late deaths sometime after day 14, almost fully developed, 1 last one had made it...
Thespoiledchicken, these are the 7 I had hatch. I've got 9 still in the bator that aren't showing any signs of life so I'm shutting it down. I figured I'd get allot 8 to hatch so I'm pretty happy :-)
Ok my whining has been satisfied for the time being... I came home from work to find 3 hatched out and 1 pipped. Hopefully I'll have some more by morning! :-)
