    missing chicken:(

Well, since that post I have lost a total of 6 chickens, 4 plymouth rock hens, 1 bantam hen and a bantam rooster. Seems their run was not predator proof afterall. whatever hardware cloth you add to your pen, you may need to add to the floor of your pen as well. A lot of predators will dig. So...

Anyone dealt with alligators as a predator?

Quote: Climbing- Yes- I had heard alligators could climb, just had a hard time believing it. Here is a web site http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/uw230 and an excerpt about climbing. "Myth #3. Alligators are not good climbers. Alligators have sharp claws and powerful tails to help them push their...

Anyone dealt with alligators as a predator?

You guys are all awesome for your input and advice! I have also been conversing w/ folks on the Fla. thread, and after thinking everything over I am going to alleviate a lot of stress by rehoming my girls, when the time comes, here in Idaho. They will be happy and carefree living in a manner...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Nava- OMG your hen house is sooooo beautiful!! You must have building and stucco experience? How realistic is stucco work for someone who has not done it? Where did the door come from? Small is good- yards are teensy, so I will have to be very well organized. Floridachicken- yes, hurricanes...

Anyone dealt with alligators as a predator?

I am moving to SW Florida soon and alligators are a potential threat where we will be living. I am wondering how important smell is to a gator? A well placed tarp can keep a gator from seeing the girls, but does smell factor in? We may be living on a canal with a pond and small back yard. i...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Quote: Welcome! I am in SW FL right now (looking to move soon, though). Where abouts you moving to? IMHO, you MUST have a secure, enclosed coop for night roosting (think plywood). I did not think we had an issue here until something came a few nights ago and ate half of my ground quail who...

Found these while surfing the web- really super looking feeder and waterer. I emailed the company to find out if they ship to the US, but no one has answered my query, so I assume they don't. Anyone know where I might find them in the good ol USA? Here's the link-...

    British Virgin Islands Feral Chickens

We bareboat charter a catamaran and don't spend very much time ashore, but when we do the first thing I look for is chickens! One day it was raining so I left my camera on board, but there were chickens on the beach foraging. That would have been fun to photograph!

    British Virgin Islands Feral Chickens

I chase chickens around whenever I am ashore in the British Virgin Islands. The chickens are feral. It is nice to see chickens living in woodland settings as they were meant to. While poking around the woods at Brewers Bay (Tortola), my younger son and I found a feral chicken nest. LOVE...
