What did you do in the garden today?

Crawfish boil very similar to a shrimp boil and gumbo made with tail meat is excellent. You can use crawfish tails for just about any dish that you would use shrimp. Garden wise planted a few hills of yellow squash, cucumbers and a couple hills of watermelons. Gathered a couple heads of...

    External Nest box ideas

I did slanted roofs on my nest boxes but I put a 2 1/2 foot over hang. My coop roof is only 6 foot 5 inches high just enough for me to walk in and around the coop without hitting my head.:) They have not leaked and we’ve had some terrible rains the last couple weeks.

I have a friend that uses the plastic kennel trays used in dog kennels. He uses the large sizes but I know they are made in several different sizes.

Planted another short row of radishes (3 foot) wife and I love them but I have found if I stagger plantings that it works better for us. I usually share produce with my neighbors but neither like radishes. I also planted 4 more rows of carrots we are hoping to get enough this year to can a few.

Not today but two days ago planted two apple trees, two pear trees and six blueberry bushes. Now maybe I’ll live long enough to eat an apple and pear the blueberries will probably produce a cup or two this year.

What did you do in the garden today?

Covered potatoes, early peas, radishes, lettuce, and golden globe turnips with a thick layer of pine straw for tonight and will uncover in the morning. Then recover tomorrow night all because we are having freezing temps tonight and tomorrow night. Hopefully it will protect the plants enough.

    Seed Starting

No. Take a sweet potatoe and suspend it in a jar of water (use tooth picks to let the bottom sit in water) and with at least half or two thirds out of the water. After several day the top will start sprouting and as the shoots get about 4 to 6 inches tall break them off and place them in a jar...
