We're going to have full time ventilation going, 20” articulating fan with a solar battery setup if more is needed. If it ends up being untenable I'll pull it, I like the shade cloth idea.
I appreciate the input everyone.
Free ranging during the day and the intent is to keep the run from turning to mud.
We'll have a vent fan a the rear with an overhead fan for circulation. I can always remove the plastic if it's too much, be it for heat or otherwise.
They'll get to enjoy the outdoors 70% of the time, from...
We're getting some solar fans for ventilation but the front and back are 1/2" hardware cloth.
We're in SE Louisiana, I made the coop in a shady spot along a breezeway facing E/W.
We've heard geese are messy, beyond creating a nice 4" soil substrate with a 2" layer of hay/pine shavings, is...
Update! It's wrapped and ready to go, raised on 4" cinder blocks as well. I still need to add soil to the inside and line with straw. We have 3 chicks already and are waiting on the other 12, we can't wait!
Check out our brooder box.
We're hoping to grow the FAM, so extra nesting boxes are preferred. I'll retool the roost situation this weekend, and add some lower down for the chicks. Appreciate the insight!

The space will be filled by 9 chicks and 3 geese...
Good catch, it is 1/2"! The coop will be constructed against the back wooden wall, getting the enclosure right was the initial goal. My wife and I have done this one bite at a time over a few weekends, and after work. I'll post updates as the construction continues.
We built a 8'x16' setup -- hoop style with cattle panel and 1/4" hardware cloth. It's not perfect, but it's large enough for more hens in the future and we can say we did it all ourselves. I still have to construct the nesting boxes, add perches, and get the food/water setup.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My wife and I are new to chickens, we still have yet to acquire any because we're building our coop/run. As we near completion (Within the next 2 weeks) we'll work with a local group to snag 6, just to start.
(2) How many chickens...
