    Never heard about using sand. Sounds good. I just use wood shavings and straw.

    You'll likely have till wait till after winter now. They'll likely start early spring when the weather gets warmer. However saying that we had chicks that started laying around December. We didn't get eggs every day but just on and off as they were just starting out. Your ducks may be like that.
