    Chick's Eye Injury

I do have some Vetericyn in the cabinet... that is safe to use at such a young age? Thank you for your advice and I appreciate the tips about the hardware cloth -- We had a mirror in there but I didn't find that sufficient.

    Chick's Eye Injury

Hello! I recently purchased 13 chicks from a local hardware store. Upon checking out they offered us an "odd ball" chick. The chick's fellow brooder mates were pecking at its eye. The sales person noticed the bullying and quickly separated the chick. We have kept "Patchy" separated (in a...

Ducks are so confusing! Pics included

Keeping your ducks in a routine that encourages them to go inside every night will assist in your efforts. Lure them in with frozen peas and make sure they have access to at least water and possibly food throughout the night. Ensure that your coop is predator proof! From the air, ground, sides...

How many should a beginner start with?

Yes unfortunately they are a tad noisy. The males are not so bad, but this is typical in every breed. Actually I had to separate the males and females for awhile; the difference between the noise level was incredible!

Blue Swedish ducks are high-strung and seem skiddish. The Buff breed I have minimal experience with but the one I have now...

How many should a beginner start with?

Starting ducks is a very exciting but be cautious! I started with 9 ducks however I wished I would have started smaller. I hatched them myself. If the flock were smaller I might be able to enjoy their individual personalities more. They are all VERY unique and fun to watch! I would say 4-6 is an...

    Questions from a duck "noob"

Based on my experience raising 10 ducks within the last year... 1. If given access to a pond/pool, do they also need separate drinking water? Yes! Although a pool/pond will be good insuring they have clean water is important. Ducks are quick to make everything messy. I kept reading/hearing...

    Dead Duck in Nesting Box

I could not find any external injuries on her. My guess was she may have ingested a poisonous substance or had a complication passing an egg. I wondered if it had anything to do with the egg because the gang loves it outside and only goes in the coop to lay.
