I'm not an expert by any means, but maybe the integration has stressed them out to the point that they've taken a break from laying, and maybe once they're fully used to the new companions they'll start laying again.
Or... (again, this is just random guessing) maybe they've started laying their...
Some notes about the barn:
The barn was originally designed for horses, so it's not nearly as tightly-sealed as a traditional chicken coop.
The soon to be duck-zone is separated from the chickens with see-through fence, so I should be able to get the ducks and chickens accustomed to one...
Early this may I had 5 tiny muscovies ducklings. After I lost two, I put a large dog crate in my room that I keep the ducks in from 8:30pm-10:00am. During the day the ducklings are released into the duck run to frolic until the sun starts setting, rinse and repeat. I've kept this up for a couple...
I used to keep the brooder door closed during the day, but once temperatures got in the 90-100 degree fahrenheit range I started keeping the door open and used bird netting to cover the entrance. I guess a rat could have easily slipped under it. I don't know any other way they could've gotten in...
A week ago, one of my five muscovy ducklings wedged himself into a tight gap when something spooked him, and though it eventually got itself free it took a long while to pry itself loose. It was dead by morning– I assumed that shock did him in.
Yesterday, the four remaining ducklings (now...
The chickens are currently working their way through a bag of purina all flock, but that comes in pellet form, and I didn't want to risk the choking hazard. I do have a big unopened bag of laying crumble on standby, but I was worried about the calcium content you mentioned.
I suppose one...
I have 5 four week old muscovy ducklings I'm currently raising. I fed them the last of their duckling crumbles today and didn't get a chance to run by the store to get more like I intended (a crisis came up in the chicken coop). So... I put together a quick batch of something to hold them over...
She was sitting on about 11. I wanted to get as many back under her as possible without disturbing her. I think I got about 2 back where they were, and the rest are leaning right up against her under a thin layer of down and hay.
Writing this fast, so pardon any grammar errors.
This is the situation:
Late this March, Jamboree (my female duck of a drake-hen pair) began laying, and soon after became broody. I don't know if she had ever laid/hatched before since I bought her as an adult, but she was super faithful about...
She reappeared this afternoon! We’ve got all three ducks now: Ducky, Dinger, and Jamboree (in that order from from front to back.)
Will take care to keep Jamboree in the fenced-in area for the next couple of weeks. There's a 6ftx10ft duck run adjacent to it that I'll close all the ducks into at...
I have raised two muscovy ducks from ducklinghood: a girl and a boy named Ducky and Dinger, (now about five months old.) I thought it was a good idea to get another lady for Dinger, so two weeks ago I brought home a new adult female muscovy named Jamboree.
Two days ago, I woke up to find...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Technically, they are my parents' chickens. They started raising them about a year and a half ago, so we're all still pretty new to the whole thing. I lend a hand whenever I can. I myself take care of three muscovy ducks (have raised...
