My mom got some Lavender Orpington’s. They were sold at 3-4 months old as hens. They are now 6-7 months old. One of them is larger than the rest and I’m starting to think rooster? His/her comb and wattles are the same color as the other hens. And no crowing. But I think I’m seeing saddle...
Hello all! This is Matilda! I’m pretty sure hen but I’m getting ready to find her brothers and sisters homes and I just want to make sure she is a hen before I decide to keep her! Also if hen, is she going to be an olive egger as well? Thanks!
Well there has been a development this morning..Chick B has developed wattles and her comb is starting to turn pinkish?? Oh and her feet are HUGE compared to the other chick
😅😳 I really hope I’m wrong but she might be a he 😭
Well if I wasn’t sure before I am now…D is definitely a cockerel! He and A have been play fighting all day! Chests out and everything 😂
I’ve added recent pictures of A. Comb is starting to redden…
That is so cool! And good to know! Genetics are so cool!
Does the ability to have gold/silver sexed link chicks come from his RIR or SS side? Or does it come from the hens?
Dad is a RIR/Speckled sussex. His mom was the speckled sussex!
And I labeled all eggs as they were laid so I could know which baby belonged to which mom!
For sure! I think it’s also fun to look back and see if we were correct! Plus I love learning the reasoning behind everyone’s guesses! That way I can learn more!
Here’s 4 of them. I’ll have to get better pics of the last one because she’s growing so fast.
A- RIR X Grey Easter Egger
B- The one already Posted
C- RIR X Black and Gold Easter Egger
D- RIR X Rhode Island Blue
E- RIR X Delaware
"D" has me scratching my head. Has the back stripe and head stripe...
OMG this is so fascinating! These are my first chicks I've ever hatched. I'm trying to learn as much as possible! Could I send you pictures of my 5 other chicks and you give me your best guess?
Thank You!
