The guinea fowl in my profile picture came from Chase Hatchery. Beautiful birds, two of my all time favorites.

I have bought chicks from Chase hatchery for 3 years in a row. We have also had Chase hatchery incubate phesant eggs for us. We have had a good experience every time we have dealt with Chase Hatchery. We have never had a pullets turn into a roo and of the 35 chicks we have purchased only one...

How high does a chicken run fence need to be?

I need to add that the chicken run is about a half acre...too big to cover.

How high does a chicken run fence need to be?

I love the idea of free range chickens, but it ends with the idea. With 2 acres of land my chickens are driving me and my neighbors crazy. They have a thing for ripping up anything planted and pooping on porches. My solution was to build a chicken run. Give them plenty of space to scratch...

    Newbie, Loss, So sad...

Because you have experience with hawks I have a question. We have 2 hawks that circle our rural dessert property for several hours each day. I kind of like them because I am not a big fan of mice but we have had three adult silkies (3-4lb birds) disappear over the last 5 days. Do you think the...

Tell How Predators Got Your Chickens. Save Somebody Else From The Bad Experience

We lost 3 chickens to the neighbors dog. We found one dead in their backyard. The neighbor said there was no way her dog could have got out. The chicken must have flown over the fence after something else attacked it. Even though there were feathers all over the coop. When she went inside...

    Broody Hen Thread!

I have a buff orpington that went missing. I found her hiding beneath a bush, up against our house with 11 eggs. She is quite far from the chicken coop on the side of our house that the chickens rarely wander to because it is just gravel and driveway. I put some water and food where she can...

3 dead birds this week, what should be my next step

I got the results back from the necropsy, it looks like we are dealing with Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (MG). As all of the birds I own will most likely be carriers for life my options are to cull the entire flock and start over or continue to raise this flock as most of the birds have passed the...

3 dead birds this week, what should be my next step

Thanks for the advice. I contacted the state vet who over sees wild game and poultry. He suggested we do an necropsy on the dead birds to get more answers. I live in UT and it will be $30 a bird. I will post an update when I know more.

3 dead birds this week, what should be my next step

I started raising birds with my son earlier this year. We just moved to a 2 acre farm. We have 15 laying hens 2 rooster and 3 chicks that hatched on Thanksgiving. We also have (had, in some cases) 2 peacocks, 2 chuckers, 4 pigeons, 3 guiena fowl a pair of Lady Amherst pheasants, a pair of red...

    just found our birds killed

This morning when I went out to feed our chickens I found 9 of the ten missing. Feathers were all over outside of the caged area. After looking for about an hour I found one with a broken leg and two babies in a tree. I also found one of my chicken dead in the neighbors back yard. We are...
