Biddy is very sweet and lovable. He's hopped in our laps on numerous occassions to be pet and to sit for a while. He used to give kisses when he was little, but now he bites pretty hard so we don't let him give kisses anymore lol.
The white one is Biddy, we are still trying to determine sex, and the yellow one was Bella that got killed by a hawk last week.
Biddy is now a little over 2 months old.
I agree that you have a right to protect your land and your livestock. On the rest of it, I can't really comment because I am not, and never have been, in a situation where I had to make that choice, but I have had to protect my chickens from wild animals and have shot at them. It seems to me...
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I lost one of my babies last week. They were playing in the back yard and we went to check on them and my friend noticed a "big bird" (a hawk) sitting on the roof and she didn't think anything of it. Then she noticed the chickens weren't in the back yard...
I've been reading a lot through this forum and noticed a lot of people saying that chickens should be roosting and such....well my babies are almost a month old and I'm afraid I have spoiled them (even my fiance says I'm babying them). I gave them a baby blanket to sleep in so they'd have...
I did some searching for my county/city for chickens and the only thing I found that could even pertain to chickens was:
Sec. 14-12. Livestock
No owner or custodian of livestock shall knowingly permit such livestock to run at large
or stray upon any public roads of this county or on any...
My oldest chick is about 3 weeks and I'm not sure if it's a growth spurt or something else. Do chicks normally go through a growth spurt where they put on weight? He seems kinda heavy compaired to his 2 week old companion. Is it possible to overfeed chicks or do they just eat until they get...
What kind of chicken is the bottom one? Are his feathers supposed to look like that? I think its cute :)
I got this picture when I took out my phone to snap one of Biddy. He looked at my phone like "what is that!?" and then pecked it several times.
No, he won't stay blue. His blue color is only on his down feathers. He was a dyed chick I bought for Easter. As his adult feathers come in, Biddy is turning more white. This is an updated pic I took today and he's turning more and more white :)
These are my babies. The blue one is Biddy (unknown sex) and the yellow one is Bella. Both assumed to be White Rock chickens. Biddy is 2 weeks old. Bella is 1 week old.
My babies won't eat bugs. They stalk beetles outside but won't touch them. I've noticed my oldest eating small worms he finds in the dirt, but he found a caterpillar this morning and wouldn't touch it. Am I right in assuming if they clean their beak off by rubbing it on the ground or whatever is...
I have a 2wk old baby and a 1wk old baby and I've noticed that most of their poo seems solid unless they drink a lot of water. Then it becomes watery. I've been wondering the same....if it gets more solid over time or if it's the same all their lives.
