    Got my newest quail in!

Thanks! I'm happy with it and am working on another aviary/pen setup to get done this spring. The green house is no place for a quail in my Texas heat! I'm hoping for some permanent plantings in it and a better place to store everything!

    Got my newest quail in!

Yeppers! This was when they were fresh out of their box so they were super thirsty. They are strangely not loving their dust bat bin like I thought they would. But they're dust bathin in the dirt, which I guess is why. Would rather they use the wood ash mix tho to prevent mites.

    Got my newest quail in!

So, I decided to start my flock over with some better breeding stock from Stellar. Here's most of them! Aren't they adorable? They are finally becoming brave and exploring the whole greenhouse/quail pen. Hopping a bit too! Some of them even let me pet them today and they loooooove digging...

So, for a dryer ferment, what's the ratio of water to feed that should be used? (Just starting on FF).

Quail on Deep Litter - Why it Works

Has anyone had problems with mites using deep litter? If so, what did you do? Do you have to chuck the whole thing and start again?

    Quail for Eggs

I agree with the cold hardy sentiments. Quail on the ground with a shelter are super hardy in the cold. You don't need a heat lamp unless you are getting some serious below freezing temps. They will huddle together and create a nice warm ball and use their bedding to insulate.

Safe distance between chicken and quail

Really?! Wow! I could really do this then.....awesome! Praise the Lord, a termite-free option is available!!! Man, I am so excited and happy guys! I did tell the husband that if we get chickens, they are all the way his responsibility and he can't go anywhere near my quails! LoL. I told him...

Safe distance between chicken and quail

Okay, so I have (and adore) my 24 quail. But I really want to do a permaculture/food forest garden. The problem is that this whole sheet mulching process (while super easy and effective) is like a termite buffet in my area. Studies show termites like cardboard more than anything else ever. I...

Newbie raising quail in east Texas

This is wonderful! I have had the same "Oh no!" Moment and wished fervently they would all magically go into their coop/box. But, sadly, you know they didn't have the brains for that. I'm so going to try this! MSM cream is on amazon or at some crunchier drug/health food stores. I was super...

I would like to hear how you clicker trained your birds! That would be very good knowledge. About fire ants: I have used MSM cream on the bites with really good results. Never tried alcohol. I will give it a shot. Man, I hate those guys. They are the only insect I know that will bite the...
