Thinking of adding a roo to the flock?

You've gotten some good advice here, OP. I agree with waiting until your girls are older, and with looking for an older rooster, if you want to minimize risk. I waited until my girls were 6-8 months old, I've even seen some people recommend 1 year. I spent quite a lot of time reading this BYC...

How to keep neighbors flock out of my yard

They might not know that you have those concerns. I suggest being open, honest, and direct, and saying "I have concerns about our flocks comingling, and I worry for the safety of my senior dog around your rooster. Do you think it would be possible to contain your flock on your property? If not...

How to keep neighbors flock out of my yard

Great suggestion. Most don't even talk to their neighbors anymore... People are so quick to assume thoughtlessness, carelessness, or even malice, without even talking to the other parties. Once someone refuses to cooperate/compromise and continues to behave badly, then that is the time to begin...

Only thing we kill are gophers in the garden, and we feed those to the resident great-horned owl.

Neutering male quail: a philosophical discussion

Wow, this is fascinating! I’ll definitely be interested to hear how his behavior changes, and how the flock accepts him, once he goes back in with the flock.

    "Quaviary" Build

Well, I am here with some great news today. Mycoplasma tests (MG and MS) were both negative. I think I took my first deep breath in weeks after I read that news 😮‍💨 So, that's it I suppose. We will proceed with the planned change to the watering system anyway (just in case) and will continue...
