Introducing new chicks to the flock. Please help!

I put my chicks in the run with my older birds. The chicks are in the brooder still but yesterday I was able to stay home and observe them so I decided to let the chicks out and get to know their new flock mates. The older hens were less than thrilled to find the strangers, who had been inside...

    Identifying these birds

I really hope that is a silver leghorn. I got them from tractor supply and they were all midslabeled. I won't go there again. I'd get eggs from McMurray or the like next year. Thanks for helping identify these!

    Identifying these birds

Can anyone help me identify the breeds of these birds? If this isn't the place for this thread I'm sorry. Please advise, moderator and I will take it down.

Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

The Buff is pictured several times and they are all roughly 8-9 weeks old. I tried to post them from different angles to aid in determining their sex. I really hoped the White Leghorn was a pullet because it is my sons favorite. We might have to replace it if it's a cockerel. Gonna get my...

post your chicken coop pictures here!

The rafters have a gap between the walls about 2" running the length of the coop on either side where they connect. I have a 4" hole saw and I plan on cutting a vent on the highest part of the coop on the short wall on both sides and probably a low one on the back that I will cover with chicken...

With all of the amazing cool designs here mine is nothing spectacular. Definitely built on a budget and I like what it has become. The chickens are free range all day and really only go inside at night and are let out when the sun comes up free to graze the land as they please for the time...

    Newbie Introduction. Hi all!

I got my first chickens from Tractor Supply March 20th. I've had a wild ride. My wife and I are looking to homestead, planting edible landscapes, and raising our own chickens for food and for eggs (predominantly for eggs, with a priority in tick eradication). I'm glad to be a part of this site...

You sure the silver one is a leghorn? I was thinking it was a bantam. She's the smallest of all the birds (the same age) and the quickest.

What does "hatchery quality" mean? Is that good or bad? He's gonna get culled soon anyway if we are certain it's a cockerel. I might consider giving him away first instead because there's not much meat there and I'd rather he became a pet. He is feisty and pecks more than any of the other...

Thanks so much! I was confused. This whole time I thought they were RIR. What do the darker red ones look like to you? I should have gone to a more reputable breeder. Live and learn. At least (hopefully) I will have some pullets out of this. I'm so happy to have chickens! Can't wait for eggs.

Pretty sure the "Production Red" is a cockerel. How about the two in the background?
