Yeah Saturday we called Augusta, North Augusta, Waynesboro, and Harlem Tractor Supply's. One guy said they sold out in 20mins 😳 Thank you MommyGirl for the suggestions. We will keep looking. We already have 3 RIRs and we are just looking to add to our flock.
I have tried both; Barnhart's next shipment isn't until April 11th that isn't already reserved and I can't seem to get an answer at Blackberry Creek. I have reached out via Facebook though.
Good morning,
We are currently looking for 4-5 Rhode Island Red pullets to add to our flock. We have looked at many of the local farms and Tractor supply with no luck. I was hoping maybe we had some locals on this forum that could steer us in the right direction.
Thank you all in advance!
Got some cephalexin. Going to start administrating tonight. Our girl is alert but still hurting. May have to back in but I'm checking the swelling when we let her soak
On another note, one of our laying hens decided to jump over their fence with the dogs out. A lot of feathers but she's...
This hen doesn't even lay for us anymore. She was very productive the first 2 years or maybe another underlying issue.
We love her though and she is the last of our original flock.
If it comes back I may track down some antibiotics to feed her with a syringe. This is our first time so we will see over the next day or two. It's definitely inflamed today so we should hopefully see improvement over the next day or two.
Yeah. We soaked for 25 minutes in Epsom salt and then got everything ready.
I picked the scab off completely in pieces and as soon as I got through pus started coming out. Inserted the tweezers and kind of went around in a circle to open it up.
We did sterilize the scissors and tweezers on a...
I thought I had the scab off but I kept tweezing and got through. It's pretty tough skin. Once you get past it, you will know, especially if it's swollen pretty bad. It was just a giant hole/cavity. I was hesitant to keep going at first but I'm glad I did.
It was kind of like an infected nail...
I've read sometimes there isn't a kernel. I'm going to wait and see how the inflammation goes. If it gets better I'm going to let it heal. Our girl did good during the operation but I don't really want to do it again and be to traumatic.
This came on sudden. I went to the store and got PRID and we applied that last night after her soak. We couldn't do it more because of her quality of life. I think it needs to be opened up this morning. It was just a giant cavity with stringy pus. Probing around just caused some mild bleeding...
We definitely got past the scab. I could put the tweezers in at least 1/2 in deep and she bled a decent amount. I probed around but didn't feel anything hard along with squeezing.
This is our first case on 4 years so just trying to learn.
Thanks for the reply!
One of our ladies has bumblefoot. She started limping really bad using her wings to balance off her left foot. We soaked her last night and this morning and peeled off the scab. There was no kernel, just a big hole full of white stringy pus. I assume we caught it early since it was still in this...
