When Should I Start Socializing My ESA Chicken? (Rhode Island Red, 3 Weeks Old)

To answer everyone’s questions. First, I would never take my chicken to work. I already answered that in one response. Idk why it would be thought that I would. I work emergency medicine. That’s not a chicken friendly job Secondly, yes, I have a cat, and she is friendly with the chickens...

When Should I Start Socializing My ESA Chicken? (Rhode Island Red, 3 Weeks Old)

I live in a very rural and friendly community. I think it’s inappropriate to suggest that I should step down from my position as a first responder for wanting to train my chicken as an ESA. I am a competent and experienced first responder, and my desire to train my chicken to be socialized and...

When Should I Start Socializing My ESA Chicken? (Rhode Island Red, 3 Weeks Old)

I don’t know how to respond to individual paragraphs so let me break it down here So yes. She will go places with me. I’ve read a ton on how chickens are great ESA animals, just very little about how to correctly socialize them in order to help make them feel more comfortable in unfamiliar...

When Should I Start Socializing My ESA Chicken? (Rhode Island Red, 3 Weeks Old)

I will keep yall updated!! She really picked me, I took them all outside when the weather was really nice, and she just kept climbing into my lap and had very little interest in running around with her sisters. I decided then and there that I wanted her to be more of my friend than just a pet...

When Should I Start Socializing My ESA Chicken? (Rhode Island Red, 3 Weeks Old)

Hi everyone! I’m a first responder, and recently made the decision to raise a chicken as my emotional support animal to help cope with the stress and emotional demands of the job. After a lot of thought and research, I’ve chosen a Rhode Island Red chick who’s currently 3 weeks old. She’s been...

    Probiotic for water?

I am in the process of buying all the last minute necessities for 8 chicks that are being hatched April 2nd. I am wondering if anyone has recommendations for a probiotic for water! We are doing exclusive organic and non gmo and I would like to make sure that we stay on that same trend. What do...

New to the flock - Please dont peck!

I do know that there are predators in our area. I have never seen raccoon's, but I know we have some in the city limits. As far as hawks, I don’t believe I’ve seen them, but will watch over the next few weeks as well. I’d hate to be the neighborhood predator hang out spot 😭

New to the flock - Please dont peck!

When they begin laying, we chose layer mash. Do you think the pellet style would be best if we do not intend to ferment the feed? Also, those are great ideas. Ideally, we would love for them to all get along, but understand that is not always the case. My kiddo is the owner of the silkie and she...

    Opinions on our coop/run?

Great information, I have been looking at the water dispensers at the stores and they just didn't seem very durable! The option you choose, to me, keeps the water cleaner than the dispensers that have open bases to mix with yuck. Great job on the coop. That's prime real estate in the poultry...

New to the flock - Please dont peck!

Lots of great advice to unpack here, thank you so much! I had not heard of Coccidiosis before, or where it comes from, so I will be looking into that very carefully before choosing the right material for the coop. Thank you for that tidbit of knowledge. My kids intend to show their chickens in...
