Sorry about that. I got them as chicks shipped from a hatchery back on May 28th.
I do let them free range but my yard is only about 1/3 acre and i have been searching for eggs but have not found any. I am beginning to think we will be having chicken dinners if I'm we're not getting any...
Hi all.
I have 4 hens (Easter Egger, 1 Golden Wyandotte and 2 Silvers)
I have had them now since June 1st and have not seen a single egg produced by any of them. I live here in South Central PA and the clocks have been turned back and cold has set in. Is this normal behavior? I Expected eggs...
Hi all.
I just went out to check on the girls for the 50th time today. My runt of the flock (4 chicks about 5 weeks old) was having a hard time moving. It looks like she may have injured her her left leg. Limping and not putting weight on it. Moves a bit then sits down.
She was fine just an hour...
Thanks for your response.
yeah....it was a total rookie mistake on my part. I wanted to save time and figured I would buy one already made. Its is nice. Its made of cedar and I did pay good money for it which sucks!
I will end up building a run in the back corner. My neighbors are great so no...
Thanks, I live in South Central PA (York PA). right at the Mason Dixon line. It does get below freezing in the winter. I am trying to figure out how to retro fit what and make the whole thing a coop and then build a run around it....uggg
Thanks! I actually just PM'ed B so hopefully they will respond.
I would like to reto fit what I have....maybe turn the whole thing into a coop then build a run around it. ....uggg
Thanks Sumi.
Very informative article. But I think that is where I get confused. the article says 4 square feet per chick....that is a lot of space and my coop only measures 25inches wide x 25.5 inches deep. It supposed to be capable of 4large breeds.
Thanks D!
A friend of mine sent me this last week actually. I may be incorporating it in my run design as well.
Thanks again for the advise. Much appreciated!
Thanks again Nupe.
Wow you are going to have your hands full with all those chicks...lol
I was planning on incorporating this coop into a larger run for them...just not sure how yet. I don't think I have to worry too much about predators or neighbor dogs as we have a 4 1/2 foot fence around our...
Thanks Nupe.
Yes, they have 2 roosting bars that came with the coop. I currently only have one in the coop as it is crowded with both bars and the food and water containers. Think I should move the containers to the run now that they are a month old and only let them feed and drink during the days?
Hi fellow chicken lovers. I am a newb. My chicks have been with us now for 4 weeks from the hatchery.
I originally was ordering just 2 chicks and I ordered a nice cedar coop online that is supposed to be designed for 4 large breed or 6 bantams. So i figured having only 2 chicks this would be...
Thanks MP!
I work from home so I have flexibility in regards to feeding and watering. I just didn't know if I should just feed them once a day say in the morning or just let them have all you can eat all day :)
Didn't want to starve of dehydrate the little ladies.
Hi all !!
my girls just turned 2 weeks old and getting very curious. :) so I let them have access to the run.
Being this is my first flock, I had a couple questions at this stage:
- Will they eventually learn to go back into the coop at night? This is their third day with access to the run...
